obsidian-cliLets the agent read, write, search and tidy an Obsidian vault directly through the official Obsidian command-line interface.
The skill drives the official Obsidian CLI, which talks to a running Obsidian desktop app over IPC. It handles requests such as reading a note or daily note, writing or appending content, searching, listing or counting notes, managing tasks, moving or renaming files, and finding orphaned notes or broken links. It is meant for hands-on vault operations and automation, not for conceptual questions about Obsidian's interface, settings or plugins.
Prerequisites are Obsidian Desktop 1.12.0 or newer with the command line interface switched on in settings, and the app must be running. Platform notes cover the binary landing in PATH on macOS and Linux, the Obsidian.com redirector and non-admin terminals needed on Windows (with a Git Bash wrapper workaround), and the .deb package under xvfb for headless Linux.
Parameters use key=value syntax, and naming a vault as the first argument targets it, otherwise the most recently active vault is used. The CLI has more than 130 commands in groups such as files and daily notes, and references/command-reference.md lists the flags and output formats for each.

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

Obsidian CLI loads about 3.2k tokens when it runs, and up to ~8.6k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 217 tokens; SKILL.md has 971 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
Without a licence we can't republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 971 words (~3,169 tokens).
“The official Obsidian CLI (released in v1.12, February 2026) lets you control every aspect of Obsidian from the terminal. It communicates with a running Obsidian desktop instance via IPC.”

Obsidian CLI fits situations like: reading or appending to a daily note in an Obsidian vault; searching vault contents from the terminal; finding orphaned notes or broken links; scripting vault operations or cron-based Obsidian workflows.
Run `npx skills add pablo-mano/Obsidian-CLI-skill --skill obsidian-cli -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (plugins/obsidian-cli/skills/obsidian-cli in pablo-mano/Obsidian-CLI-skill) into .claude/skills/obsidian-cli in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add pablo-mano/Obsidian-CLI-skill --skill obsidian-cli -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/obsidian-cli, .gemini/skills/obsidian-cli, .github/skills/obsidian-cli and .opencode/skills/obsidian-cli in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Obsidian CLI needs the command-line tools its instructions call (jq). Our summary lists: Obsidian Desktop 1.12.0 or newer, running; The command line interface enabled in Obsidian settings; On Windows, Obsidian.com next to Obsidian.exe and a non-admin terminal.

About 3.2k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 13k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 5.4k tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.
