What it does

Proposal Methods is an agent skill from Optima-CityU/LLM4AD_Next. Use when translating established proposal objectives into research methods, a technical route, formal definitions, and an evaluation plan.

Its SKILL.md is about 600 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 2 other files, including reference files (for example `references/research-methods.md`).

It sits in Writing & Content, covering Translation. The repository describes itself as: A next-generation automatic algorithm design platform, making automated algorithm design more accessible and easier to use. The licence is BSD-3-Clause.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 1066043. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Proposal Methods loads about 598 tokens when it runs, and up to ~1.5k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 39 tokens; SKILL.md has 286 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~39
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~598
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~1.5k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Proposal Research Methods

Use this skill only for the proposal methods stage. Write only sections/05-methods.typ.

Read the method reference completely before acting: references/research-methods.md.

You may read any project source file for context. You may modify only sections/05-methods.typ. Project documents are optional context. Their names describe their role; decide whether and when to read each one from the current stage and request. The presence of a project document does not make it mandatory input.

Workflow

  1. The foundation, evidence, rationale, and objectives provide optional context for method design. Select the material needed to keep the proposed methods aligned and source-grounded.
  2. Apply the technical-route, problem-modeling, mechanism-design, validation, notation, and risk methods from the reference.
  3. Specify assumptions, inputs, procedure, evaluation evidence, failure conditions, and fallback paths at an appropriate level of technical depth.
  4. Preserve mathematical notation and define every symbol consistently in Typst.
  5. Use AskUserQuestion when the choice of method, data, experimental condition, or evaluation standard materially changes the project.
  6. Do not claim unavailable data, equipment, results, or implementation maturity.
  7. Write the Typst section, then call publish_stage_result from the enabled LLM4AD stage MCP server with the written path, summary, citation keys actually used, context_patch, and a stable idempotency key. Tool success is the stage-completion signal; repair and retry validation errors in the same conversation. Record any durable method boundary, author decision, resource fact, or other project-specific context newly established or corrected in this stage using model-defined blocks and stable keys. Return empty patch arrays when nothing changed.

Quality checks

  • The technical route is executable and directly addresses the objectives.
  • Evaluation criteria can distinguish success from failure.
  • Risks and assumptions are visible rather than hidden behind general language.
  • Citations exist in the project bibliography.
