making-academic-presentationsTurns a research paper into a slide deck and, optionally, a narrated demo video, through script, slide generation, text-to-speech and video assembly stages you control.
The skill produces academic slide decks, and optionally narrated demo videos, from research papers. The human drives every outline and visual decision and the agent executes. The pipeline has four stages: a script or outline draft from the paper and your plan, slide generation, optional TTS audio and optional video assembly. You can enter at any stage, or skip the last two for slides only.
Slides are generated with nanobanana, a Gemini CLI extension, preferring its /edit command on existing paper figures, existing slides or your reference decks over generating from scratch, with a deck-style.md written once per deck and prepended to prompts for slides generated from scratch. For narration, edge-tts is the default, Kokoro is a local engine for offline batch runs and ElevenLabs is also listed, each with a reference or batch script. Video is assembled with ffmpeg.
Reference files cover slide generation, TTS engines and PPTX conversion. The agent drafts scripts from your outline but does not choose the slide count, order or what to emphasize.
4 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit d51b64e. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Ships 2 files in scripts/ (Python), which the agent can run.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
ffmpegbrewpipclaudesofficepdftoppmgeminiFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
Hosts in commands or code, which the agent is likely to contact:
github.comFrom URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names these keys or tokens, usually read from environment variables:
ELEVENLABS_API_KEYFrom names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Academic Presentation Maker loads about 1.5k tokens when it runs, and up to ~4.4k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 96 tokens; SKILL.md has 504 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.
Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 504 words (~1,521 tokens).

Turns a research paper into a slide deck and, optionally, a narrated demo video, through script, slide generation, text-to-speech and video assembly stages you control. The skill produces academic slide decks, and optionally narrated demo videos, from research papers. The human drives every outline and visual decision and the agent executes.
Academic Presentation Maker fits situations like: turning a research paper into a conference talk deck; producing narration scripts and TTS audio for each slide; assembling a demo video from slides and audio; converting generated slides into a PPTX file.
Run `npx skills add OpenLAIR/dr-claw --skill making-academic-presentations -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/making-academic-presentations in OpenLAIR/dr-claw) into .claude/skills/making-academic-presentations in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add OpenLAIR/dr-claw --skill making-academic-presentations -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/making-academic-presentations in OpenLAIR/dr-claw) into .agents/skills/making-academic-presentations in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add OpenLAIR/dr-claw --skill making-academic-presentations -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/making-academic-presentations, .gemini/skills/making-academic-presentations, .github/skills/making-academic-presentations and .opencode/skills/making-academic-presentations in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Academic Presentation Maker needs Python for the scripts in its folder, the command-line tools its instructions call (ffmpeg, brew, pip, claude, soffice and pdftoppm) and credentials named ELEVENLABS_API_KEY. Our summary lists: The nanobanana extension for Gemini CLI; edge-tts or Kokoro, for narration; ffmpeg, for video assembly.
SKILL.md names 1 domain. In commands or code: github.com; the agent is likely to contact it when it follows the instructions. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. The check reads SKILL.md only: the scripts in the folder are not scanned, so read them before running anything.
Academic Presentation Maker has a licence file (the repository's licence) that doesn't match a standard licence. Read it on GitHub before reusing the skill.
About 1.5k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 6.1k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 2.9k tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.
