code-qualityCode quality: cleanup, linting, formatting, quality gates. An agent skill from notque/vexjoy-agent.
Code Quality is an agent skill from notque/vexjoy-agent. Code quality: cleanup, linting, formatting, quality gates.
Its SKILL.md is about 1.5k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 11 other files, including scripts and reference files (for example `references/biome-rules-reference.md`, `references/cleanup-report-template.md` and `references/cleanup-scan-commands.md`).
It sits in Development, covering Code quality, Linting and formatting and Quality gates. It works with Python and Ruff. The repository describes itself as: VexJoy AI Agent with Jev Intelligent Routing - /do routes plain-English requests to the right specialist agent and gates the work with reviews, tests, and a learning loop. The licence is MIT.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 5218674. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves these tools, so the agent can use them without asking each time:
ReadWriteBashGrepGlobEditTaskSkillFrom allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Ships 1 file in scripts/ (Python), which the agent can run.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
ruffnpxmakepython3gitmypypytestFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use npx and git, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Code Quality loads about 1.5k tokens when it runs, and up to ~18k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 18 tokens; SKILL.md has 555 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check noted patterns worth knowing about, such as sudo or a known installer.
allowed-tools: Read, Write, Bash, Grep, Glob, Edit, Task, SkillAutomated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.
The full file from notque/vexjoy-agent at commit 5218674, republished under its MIT licence (© notque). 555 words, ~1,530 tokens.
.claude/skills/code-quality/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder). This skill also uses 9 other files; get the full folder from GitHub.Four modes. Select by request signal:
| Signal | Mode |
|---|---|
| Dead code, stale TODOs, unused imports, technical debt | Cleanup |
| Lint Python/JS/TS, run ruff, run biome, format code | Linting |
| Python quality checks, ruff+pytest+mypy+bandit | Python Quality Gate |
| Multi-language quality gate, general "quality check" | Universal Quality Gate |
Default: Python-specific requests run Python Quality Gate. General requests run Universal Quality Gate.
Scan for 9 categories of technical debt: stale TODOs, unused imports, dead code, missing type hints, deprecated functions, naming inconsistencies, high complexity, duplicate code, missing docstrings. Follow references/code-cleanup.md for the full 3-phase workflow (SCOPE, SCAN, REPORT).
Key principles:
Check or fix Python with Ruff and JavaScript/TypeScript with Biome. Read project instructions, pyproject.toml, and biome.json first; preserve configured rules.
| Task | Python | JavaScript/TypeScript |
|---|---|---|
| Check | ruff check . | npx @biomejs/biome check src/ |
| Format check | ruff format --check . | Included in Biome check |
| Fix lint | ruff check --fix . | npx @biomejs/biome check --write src/ |
| Format | ruff format . | npx @biomejs/biome format --write src/ |
Use project environment (./venv/bin/ruff). If configured, use make lint or make lint-fix. Check first; apply fixes only within requested scope. Review git diff, undo incorrect fixes, rerun checks. Do not change rules or install new tooling to get a pass.
Common fixes: F401 = remove/use import. I001 = sort imports. E501 = shorten lines. Biome noVar = use let/const. useConst = mark unchanged bindings.
Run checks in order. Read repository configuration first; project commands and thresholds override defaults.
Detect: Find pyproject.toml, setup.py, .python-version. Check tool availability: ruff and pytest required; mypy and bandit optional unless project requires them.
Execute:
| Order | Command | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | ruff check . --output-format=grouped | Required |
| 2 | ruff format --check . | Required |
| 3 | mypy . --ignore-missing-imports --show-error-codes | If available |
| 4 | pytest -v --tb=short --cov=src --cov-report=term-missing | Coverage only when configured |
| 5 | bandit -r src/ -ll --format=screen | If available |
Run all checks even after one fails. Do not skip tests to get a pass.
Assess: Prioritize syntax/undefined errors, failing tests, security findings before style. Report per-tool status with actionable file:line diagnostics.
Fix: When authorized, run ruff check . --fix and ruff format ., review diff, rerun checks.
Auto-detect languages and run configured checks. Read repository instructions first.
python3 ~/.claude/skills/code-quality/universal-quality-gate/scripts/run_quality_gate.pyOptions: --staged (pre-commit), --lang python (single language), --fix (apply fixes), -v (verbose).
Language detection uses hooks/lib/language_registry.json:
| Language | Markers | Tools |
|---|---|---|
| Python | pyproject.toml, requirements.txt | ruff, mypy, bandit |
| Go | go.mod | gofmt, golangci-lint, go vet |
| JavaScript | package.json | eslint, biome |
| TypeScript | tsconfig.json | tsc, eslint, biome |
| Rust | Cargo.toml | clippy, cargo fmt |
| Shell | *.sh | shellcheck |
A gate pass means required tools passed; it does not prove tests, builds, or business behavior passed.
Load on demand when the signal matches.
| Signal | Reference | Content |
|---|---|---|
| Full cleanup workflow (9 categories) | references/code-cleanup.md | 3-phase cleanup: SCOPE, SCAN, REPORT |
| Language-specific scan commands | references/cleanup-scan-commands.md | Per-language commands and expected output |
| Cleanup report formatting | references/cleanup-report-template.md | Structured report template |
| Ruff rules, F401/E711/B006 | references/ruff-rules-reference.md | Ruff rule reference by category |
| Biome rules, ESLint migration | references/biome-rules-reference.md | Biome rule reference by category |
| Python quality tool commands | references/python-tool-commands.md | Detailed tool command options |
| Python quality report | references/python-report-template.md | Structured report template |

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add notque/vexjoy-agent --skill code-quality -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/code-quality, .gemini/skills/code-quality, .github/skills/code-quality and .opencode/skills/code-quality in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Code Quality needs Python for the scripts in its folder and the command-line tools its instructions call (ruff, npx, make, python3, git and mypy). Our summary lists: Python 3; Node.js. Its frontmatter pre-approves these tools: Read, Write, Bash, Grep, Glob, Edit, Task, Skill.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Its commands use npx and git, which can reach the network depending on how they are called. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found notes only (pre-approves every shell command (allowed-tools: bash)), nothing it rates as a warning. It is not a guarantee. The check reads SKILL.md only: the scripts in the folder are not scanned, so read them before running anything.
Code Quality is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 1.5k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 6.1k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 16k tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.
Skills that share tags, products or a category with Code Quality: Align Recipe pyproject.toml (google/adk-recipes, 10k stars), Cb Code Quality (BlkLeg/CircuitBreaker, 201 stars), ONNX Runtime Lint (microsoft/onnxruntime, 22k stars) and Megatron-LM Linting and Formatting (NVIDIA/Megatron-LM, 18k stars). The comparison table on this page puts their stars, adoption, token cost, safety result and licence side by side.
