auto-captureCaptures ACT NOW items and one session summary into Open Brain when a work session ends, as a behavioral protocol rather than a background hook.
The skill addresses a familiar loss: high-value decisions and next actions disappear at the end of a session when saving them takes a separate decision. It triggers when you are clearly wrapping up (wrap up, park this, goodnight), when a brainstorm or a Panning for Gold run has produced ACT NOW items, or when the conversation is about to end. It is a cue the agent follows, not a timer, daemon, hook or background service.
For each ACT NOW item, the agent first searches Open Brain for an obvious existing match when a search tool is exposed, then captures the item as its own self-contained thought: the idea in its strongest form, why it matters, two or three concrete next actions and provenance such as a date or source file. One session summary records the topic, how many important items emerged, the main themes and where fuller context lives. Raw transcripts, parked items and duplicates are skipped. If the capture tool fails, the agent says so instead of claiming success.
6 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 238df6c. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

Auto-Capture to Open Brain loads about 753 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 111 tokens; SKILL.md has 376 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 376 words (~753 tokens).
“High-value decisions and next actions are easy to lose at the end of a session. If capturing them requires a separate decision, they often never make it into Open Brain.”

sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills
Keeps project decisions, research and verified results available across coding-agent sessions through LWC memory, a document Wiki graph and a CodeGraph code index.
bobmatnyc/claude-mpm
Persistent memory palace system with hierarchical storage (palace/wing/room/closet/drawer), progressive retrieval (L0-L3), and temporal knowledge graph for cross-session context
gastownhall/beads
Tracks multi-session work with dependencies in the bd issue tracker so the agent can find ready tasks and recover its context after conversation compaction.
yamadashy/repomix
Saves and recalls markdown notes between agent sessions with the agent-carnet CLI, tracking which notes proved useful so stale ones expire and good ones stay.
slopus/happy
Searches past Claude Code, Codex and Cursor sessions and summarizes what was worked on, tried or decided, using extraction scripts instead of reading raw logs.
MemoriLabs/Memori
Connects Claude Code to Memori Cloud for long-term memory, recalling stored context before substantive replies and saving new context afterward.
NateBJones-Projects/OB1
Converts large PDF, DOCX, PPTX, XLSX and CSV files into markdown or CSV plus an index before the agent reads them, so tokens go to the compressed copy.
NateBJones-Projects/OB1
Pulls reusable knowledge out of work sessions and turns it into new skills, checking existing notes and skills first to avoid duplicates.
NateBJones-Projects/OB1
Fires a Stop hook that captures a Claude Code session transcript automatically when the session ends without a verbal wrap-up.
NateBJones-Projects/OB1
Captures and searches personal notes in a self-hosted Open Brain using plain curl calls over HTTP, for setups where MCP is disabled or blocked.
NateBJones-Projects/OB1
Processes voice transcripts and brain dumps in three phases, extracting every idea thread, evaluating the strongest and saving a permanent inventory and synthesis.
NateBJones-Projects/OB1
Designs, evaluates and improves the harness around an AI agent: tool permissions, approval gates, state, memory, evals and observability, with phased plans.

Auto-Capture to Open Brain fits situations like: wrapping up a brainstorm that produced decisions and next actions; parking a project and wanting its key items saved; finishing a Panning for Gold run; closing a session so its outcomes are findable months later.
Run `npx skills add NateBJones-Projects/OB1 --skill auto-capture -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/auto-capture in NateBJones-Projects/OB1) into .claude/skills/auto-capture in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add NateBJones-Projects/OB1 --skill auto-capture -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/auto-capture in NateBJones-Projects/OB1) into .agents/skills/auto-capture in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add NateBJones-Projects/OB1 --skill auto-capture -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/auto-capture, .gemini/skills/auto-capture, .github/skills/auto-capture and .opencode/skills/auto-capture in your project.
SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Auto-Capture to Open Brain is instructions for the agent only. Our summary lists: An Open Brain connection that exposes a capture tool, often named capture_thought.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Auto-Capture to Open Brain has a licence file (the repository's licence) that doesn't match a standard licence. Read it on GitHub before reusing the skill.
About 753 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 3k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
