ai-elementsAdds AI Elements components such as conversations, messages, tool displays and prompt inputs to a Next.js project that uses shadcn/ui.
The skill is a guide to AI Elements, a component library and custom registry layered on shadcn/ui for AI-native apps. It explains two ways to add components, the dedicated `ai-elements` CLI or the standard shadcn/ui CLI. Either one copies the component source and any dependencies into your project, by default under `@/components/ai-elements/`.
The agent is told to run CLI commands with whichever package runner the project uses (npx, pnpm dlx or bunx, chosen from `packageManager`). Prerequisites are Node.js 18 or later, a Next.js project with the AI SDK installed, and shadcn/ui, which the install command sets up if it is missing. An AI Gateway key in `env.local` is recommended. A `references` folder holds one page per component, including conversation, code-block and file-tree, and the excerpt is cut off before the usage section.
4 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit aab9dc6. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Ships 1 file in scripts/, which the agent can run.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
npxpnpmbunxFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
Links to these hosts (documentation or services it may open):
ui.shadcn.comvercel.comgithub.comnpmjs.comnodejs.orgnextjs.orgai-sdk.devFrom URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names these keys or tokens, usually read from environment variables:
AI_GATEWAY_API_KEYFrom names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
AI Elements Chat Components loads about 1.8k tokens when it runs, and up to ~64k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 57 tokens; SKILL.md has 778 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.
Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 778 words (~1,805 tokens).
“AI Elements is a component library and custom registry built on top of shadcn/ui to help you build AI-native applications faster. It provides pre-built components like conversations, messages and more.”

AI Elements Chat Components fits situations like: building a chatbot or AI assistant interface in a Next.js app; adding conversation, message or prompt input components to a shadcn/ui project; showing tool calls or code blocks inside an AI chat view.
Run `npx skills add mweinbach/agent-coworker --skill ai-elements -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/ai-elements in mweinbach/agent-coworker) into .claude/skills/ai-elements in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add mweinbach/agent-coworker --skill ai-elements -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/ai-elements in mweinbach/agent-coworker) into .agents/skills/ai-elements in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add mweinbach/agent-coworker --skill ai-elements -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/ai-elements, .gemini/skills/ai-elements, .github/skills/ai-elements and .opencode/skills/ai-elements in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, AI Elements Chat Components needs the command-line tools its instructions call (npx, pnpm and bunx) and credentials named AI_GATEWAY_API_KEY. Our summary lists: Node.js 18 or later; A Next.js project with the AI SDK installed; shadcn/ui (the install command adds it if missing); Optionally an `AI_GATEWAY_API_KEY` in `env.local`.
SKILL.md names 7 domains. As links in the text: ui.shadcn.com, vercel.com, github.com, npmjs.com, nodejs.org, nextjs.org and ai-sdk.dev. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. The check reads SKILL.md only: the scripts in the folder are not scanned, so read them before running anything.
AI Elements Chat Components has a licence file (the repository's licence) that doesn't match a standard licence. Read it on GitHub before reusing the skill.
About 1.8k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 7.2k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 62k tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.
