Bare-metal timer and PWM skill. An agent skill from mohitmishra786/low-level-dev-skills.

  • Works in 4 steps: PWM on TIM2 CH1 (STM32) → SysTick tick → Input capture → …

What it does

Timers Pwm Baremetal is an agent skill from mohitmishra786/low-level-dev-skills. Bare-metal timer and PWM skill. Use when configuring general-purpose timers for PWM, input capture, or periodic ticks without RTOS. Activates on queries about timer prescaler, PWM duty cycle, input capture, or SysTick bare-metal.

Its SKILL.md is about 490 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Development, covering Embedded systems. The repository describes itself as: A curated suite of AI agent skills for systems and low-level programming with C/C++, Rust, and Zig toolchains, covering compilers, debuggers, profilers, build systems…. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • Configuring general-purpose timers for PWM
  • Periodic ticks without RTOS

Example prompts

  • “/timers-pwm-baremetal”

Workflow steps

4 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.

  1. PWM on TIM2 CH1 (STM32)
  2. SysTick tick
  3. Input capture
  4. Agent usage

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit bdc5847. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

    Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

    From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are c).

    From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

    From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

    Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

    From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Timers Pwm Baremetal loads about 490 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 63 tokens; SKILL.md has 135 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~63
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~490

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Bare-metal timer and PWM skill. Use when configuring general-purpose timers for PWM, input capture, or periodic ticks without RTOS. Activates on queries about timer prescaler, PWM duty cycle, input capture, or SysTick bare-metal.

Timers and PWM (Bare-Metal)

Purpose

Configure MCU timers for PWM output, input capture, and periodic scheduling: prescaler/ARR setup, compare channels, and SysTick as a simple tick source.

When to Use

  • Motor/LED dimming via PWM
  • Measuring pulse width (input capture)
  • Bare-metal millis() without FreeRTOS
  • Hardware periodic sampling trigger

Workflow

1. PWM on TIM2 CH1 (STM32)
f_pwm = f_timer_clk / ((PSC+1) * (ARR+1))
duty = (CCR / (ARR+1)) * 100%
c
RCC->APB1ENR |= RCC_APB1ENR_TIM2EN;

TIM2->PSC  = 83;      /* 84MHz / 84 = 1 MHz tick */
TIM2->ARR  = 999;     /* 1 kHz PWM */
TIM2->CCR1 = 500;     /* 50% duty */
TIM2->CCMR1 |= (6U << TIM_CCMR1_OC1M_Pos);  /* PWM mode 1 */
TIM2->CCER  |= TIM_CCER_CC1E;
TIM2->CR1   |= TIM_CR1_CEN;

GPIO: PA0 AF1 TIM2_CH1.

2. SysTick tick
c
volatile uint32_t tick_ms;

void SysTick_Handler(void) {
    tick_ms++;
}

void systick_init(uint32_t hz) {
    SysTick_Config(SystemCoreClock / hz);
}
3. Input capture

Configure channel in CCMR as input, set CCER polarity, read CCR on interrupt when edge captured.

4. Agent usage
/timers-pwm-baremetal 1 kHz 25% duty PWM on TIM2 channel 1
