At a glance

Installs and configures the OpenSearch extension that stores KubeSphere logs, events, audit data and notification history, with its dashboard and curator options.

  • Works in 3 steps: Find which cluster OpenSearch was… → Get cluster kubeconfig → Get OpenSearch endpoint
  • Installing an OpenSearch cluster for KubeSphere logging, events or auditing
  • SKILL.md covers Overview, When to Use, Components and Prerequisites, plus 5 more sections
  • Calls kubectl and curl

What it does

This skill installs and configures the OpenSearch extension that KubeSphere's WizTelemetry observability stack uses to store and search logs, auditing events, Kubernetes events and notification history. It describes four components: a master node with one replica by default, data nodes with three replicas, a dashboards web UI that is disabled by default, and a curator that periodically deletes old indices and is on by default.

Before installing, the agent uses kubectl to check whether an InstallPlan named `opensearch` already exists and is enabled, lists the available clusters, and, if you did not name target clusters, asks you to confirm them rather than guessing. It then looks up the newest extension version with a kubectl query. The InstallPlan name has to be exactly `opensearch`. Example plans cover a minimal install, one with the dashboard enabled and one with the curator disabled.

When your agent uses it

  • Installing an OpenSearch cluster for KubeSphere logging, events or auditing
  • Turning on the OpenSearch dashboards for an existing install
  • Disabling the curator that cleans old indices
  • Checking whether OpenSearch is already installed on a cluster

Example prompts

  • “Install OpenSearch for KubeSphere on the host cluster only.”
  • “Enable the OpenSearch dashboards on my existing installation.”
  • “Turn off the curator so old log indices are kept.”
  • “Is OpenSearch already enabled on this cluster?”

Requirements

  • kubectl access to a KubeSphere cluster

Workflow steps

3 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Find which cluster OpenSearch was deployed to
  2. Get cluster kubeconfig
  3. Get OpenSearch endpoint

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 04a29b5. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • kubectl
    • curl

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use kubectl and curl, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

KubeSphere OpenSearch Extension loads about 2.8k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 51 tokens; SKILL.md has 572 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~51
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~2.8k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

SKILL.md

Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 572 words (~2,819 tokens).

“OpenSearch is a distributed search and analytics engine built into the KubeSphere WizTelemetry Observability Platform. It is used to store, search, and analyze observability data including logs, auditing events, K8s events, and notification history.”
