At a glance

Queries, creates, updates, binds and troubleshoots NodeGroup resources in the edgewize nodegroup project through a bundled authenticated API script.

  • Works in 7 steps: Query NodeGroups → Create a NodeGroup → Update or Patch a NodeGroup → …
  • Listing or inspecting NodeGroup resources in a KubeSphere cluster
  • SKILL.md covers Purpose, Prerequisites, Source of Truth and Main Resources, plus 7 more sections
  • Runs Python scripts from its folder; calls python, kubectl and pip; needs KUBESPHERE_PASSWORD and KUBESPHERE_TOKEN

What it does

Day-to-day work on `NodeGroup` resources is covered: listing and inspecting them, creating, updating, patching or deleting them, binding and unbinding nodes, namespaces and workspaces, troubleshooting an incomplete sync, and checking the deployment config under `config/nodegroup`. The agent prefers the bundled `scripts/nodegroup_api.py` for authenticated KAPI calls and uses `kubectl` only to verify results or as a fallback.

The script logs in at `/oauth/token`, caches the token in `~/.kubesphere_token` and reads the KubeSphere host, username, password and token from environment variables. For safety, reads use query commands, writes make only the requested change, deletion happens only on explicit request, ambiguous unbind or delete requests get an impact check, and every change follows inspect, apply, verify. When unsure how an operation works, the agent reads the named source files in the nodegroup repository.

When your agent uses it

  • Listing or inspecting NodeGroup resources in a KubeSphere cluster
  • Binding or unbinding nodes, namespaces or workspaces for a node group
  • Finding out why a node group sync is incomplete

Example prompts

  • “List all node groups and show their state and manager.”
  • “Bind the payments namespace to the edge-east node group, then verify the result.”
  • “A node group looks half-synced, so inspect it and tell me what is missing.”

Requirements

  • Python with `requests`
  • KubeSphere host and credentials in environment variables
  • kubectl, as an optional fallback

Workflow steps

7 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.

  1. Query NodeGroups
  2. Create a NodeGroup
  3. Update or Patch a NodeGroup
  4. Delete a NodeGroup
  5. Bind or Unbind a Node
  6. Bind or Unbind a Namespace
  7. Bind or Unbind a Workspace

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 04a29b5. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

Ships 1 file in scripts/ (Python), which the agent can run.

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • python
    • kubectl
    • pip

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use kubectl and pip, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names these keys or tokens, usually read from environment variables:

    • KUBESPHERE_PASSWORD
    • KUBESPHERE_TOKEN

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

KubeSphere NodeGroup Operations loads about 1.9k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 75 tokens; SKILL.md has 614 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~75
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~1.9k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.

SKILL.md

Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 614 words (~1,931 tokens).

“Use this skill to perform real nodegroup-related operations in the edgewize-io/nodegroup environment.”
