kubesphere-servicemeshInstalls, checks and troubleshoots the KubeSphere ServiceMesh extension (Istio, Kiali, Jaeger), including grayscale release, sidecar injection, topology and tracing issues.
This skill manages the ServiceMesh extension for KubeSphere, which bundles Istio for traffic routing, Kiali for topology views and Jaeger for tracing. A service is governed when it carries the `servicemesh.kubesphere.io/enabled` annotation set to true and belongs to a Composed App. Two custom resources are defined: Strategy for grayscale releases (canary, blue-green and traffic mirroring) and ServicePolicy for load balancing, connection pools and circuit breaking through an Istio DestinationRule.
Installation is a guided sequence. The agent checks for an existing InstallPlan with kubectl, lists available extension versions and offers the latest stable one, picks target clusters (the host cluster is used automatically when there is only one), looks for a gateway-api InstallPlan and turns off Istio's gateway API handling if one exists, then generates and applies the InstallPlan. Three shell scripts (check-status, generate-installplan, verify-uninstall) and a values reference back the install, status and uninstall tasks; the excerpt ends before the troubleshooting sections.
4 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 04a29b5. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Ships 3 files in scripts/ (Shell), which the agent can run.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
kubectlFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use kubectl, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
KubeSphere ServiceMesh Manager loads about 2.4k tokens when it runs, and up to ~2.6k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 87 tokens; SKILL.md has 488 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.
Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 488 words (~2,420 tokens).
“Integrates Istio, Kiali, and Jaeger to provide traffic governance for microservices. They operate on Composed App (backed by applications.app.k8s.io). A Service is governed when it has the annotation servicemesh.kubesphere.io/enabled: "true" and belongs to a Composed App.”

Going by SKILL.md and its folder, KubeSphere ServiceMesh Manager needs a shell for the scripts in its folder and the command-line tools its instructions call (kubectl). Our summary lists: kubectl access to a KubeSphere cluster; The ServiceMesh extension available in KubeSphere.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. The check reads SKILL.md only: the scripts in the folder are not scanned, so read them before running anything.
KubeSphere ServiceMesh Manager has a licence file (the repository's licence) that doesn't match a standard licence. Read it on GitHub before reusing the skill.
About 2.4k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 9.7k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 170 tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.
