At a glance

Installs and manages the OpenKruise extension in KubeSphere: InstallPlan, SidecarSet and CloneSet manifests, in-place updates, batch rollouts and webhook troubleshooting.

  • Works in 9 steps: Pre-check → InstallPlan Template → Status and Logs After Install → …
  • Installing or enabling OpenKruise on a KubeSphere cluster
  • SKILL.md covers Response Rules, Version Mapping Discovery, Discovery Commands and Install OpenKruise in KubeSphere, plus 4 more sections
  • Calls kubectl, jq and curl; needs KS_PASSWORD

What it does

Here the agent handles the full OpenKruise lifecycle on KubeSphere: installing or upgrading the extension through an InstallPlan, checking its status, CRDs, pods and logs, and uninstalling it. It writes SidecarSet manifests for sidecar injection and rolling updates, and CloneSet manifests for advanced stateless workloads with in-place updates and batch rollout.

Version handling gets particular attention. The skill separates the KubeSphere extension version used in the InstallPlan from the OpenKruise runtime version seen in pods, records the mapping observed in its environment (extension 1.0.3, runtime 1.4.0), and tells the agent never to invent a version but to show how to list the available ones. It also states that the InstallPlan name must match its extension name and that an InstallPlan is cluster-scoped. Other CRDs, such as BroadcastJob or UnitedDeployment, are left as follow-up tasks.

When your agent uses it

  • Installing or enabling OpenKruise on a KubeSphere cluster
  • Injecting a sidecar container into matching pods with a SidecarSet
  • Rolling out a new image in batches or in place with a CloneSet
  • Troubleshooting failed Kruise pods, missing CRDs or webhook errors

Example prompts

  • “Install the OpenKruise plugin on our KubeSphere cluster.”
  • “Write a SidecarSet that injects a logging sidecar into pods labeled app=web.”
  • “Create a CloneSet for the checkout service and roll out an image update in batches.”
  • “Why is the OpenKruise webhook rejecting my new pods?”

Requirements

  • A KubeSphere cluster with kubectl access

Workflow steps

9 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.

  1. Pre-check
  2. InstallPlan Template
  3. Status and Logs After Install
  4. InstallPlan or extension failed
  5. Kruise Pods are unhealthy
  6. CRD missing or not established
  7. Webhook failure
  8. Sidecar not injected
  9. CloneSet rollout stuck

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 04a29b5. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • kubectl
    • jq
    • curl

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use kubectl and curl, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names these keys or tokens, usually read from environment variables:

    • KS_PASSWORD

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

KubeSphere OpenKruise Management loads about 5.5k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 97 tokens; SKILL.md has 1,343 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~97
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~5.5k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

SKILL.md

Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 1,343 words (~5,506 tokens).
