artifact-validatorDiscover and validate Agent Skills, host plugins and subagents, MCP servers and configurations, hooks, and marketplace catalogs against the correct authority.
Artifact Validator is an agent skill from jeremylongshore/tons-of-skills-marketplace. Discover and validate Agent Skills, host plugins and subagents, MCP servers and configurations, hooks, and marketplace catalogs against the correct authority. Use when performing pre-merge review, external submission checks, portability audits, security checks, or validation of mixed agent-system repositories. Trigger with "validate this skill", "audit this plugin", "check this agent", "review this MCP config", or "is this marketplace ready".
Its SKILL.md is about 1.2k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 5 other files, including scripts and reference files (for example `eval-spec.yaml`, `references/validation-routing.md` and `scripts/inventory_artifacts.py`). Compatibility notes: Agent Skills-compatible hosts; validation depth depends on available authoritative tooling
It sits in Agent Workflows, covering MCP servers. It works with Model Context Protocol. The repository describes itself as: Model-agnostic agent-skills platform with a harness-free canonical layer, verified adapters, and the ccpi package manager. Explore at tonsofskills.com. The licence is MIT.

Artifact Validator loads about 1.2k tokens when it runs, and up to ~1.8k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 116 tokens; SKILL.md has 481 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.

.claude/skills/artifact-validator/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder). This skill also uses 3 other files; get the full folder from GitHub.Audit agent-system artifacts without changing them. Select authority by artifact type, run the strongest available deterministic checks, and separate observed facts from unsupported claims.
This skill is an orchestrator, not another schema authority. In the Tons of Skills repository it delegates to the repository's canonical validators. In other projects it applies the open specification floor and the target host's current contract, clearly labeling checks that could not be reproduced.
Use for a single file, plugin directory, marketplace, contributor change, or
mixed repository. Use artifact-creator when changes are requested. Use
production-upgrade when the audit must lead through research, implementation,
migration, and release readiness.
Read project instructions, inspect repository status, and determine whether the target is generated, mirrored, canonical, or host-specific.
Run the offline inventory helper:
python3 scripts/inventory_artifacts.py <target>Use references/validation-routing.md to select the owner for each discovered artifact. Do not merge verdicts from different standards into one unexplained score.
In the Tons of Skills repository:
scripts/validate-skills-schema.py for skill and agent authority;scripts/validate-mcp-config.mjs and the declared security gates for
MCP configuration;Validate structure, references, declared versus used capabilities, secret hygiene, path containment, bounded execution, provenance, license, and the evidence supporting every portability or production claim.
For behavior, require positive, negative, edge, and adversarial cases. A passing structural score does not prove runtime behavior or safety.
Reproduce automated-review findings independently. Reject or qualify any claim that lacks a command, primary source, fixture, or observable boundary.
Return a severity-ordered report with exact paths, evidence, authority, remediation options, and a PASS, FAIL, or NOT-VERIFIED verdict per artifact.
Report the inventory, checks executed, exact command results, blocking findings, warnings, unverified surfaces, and overall claim ceiling. Do not collapse a partially tested multi-component plugin into a stronger verdict than its weakest component.
NOT-VERIFIED, and do not invent a pass.SKILL.md with no behavioral evidence can pass structure while
remaining NOT-VERIFIED for production behavior.scripts/inventory_artifacts.py performs read-only deterministic discovery.© jeremylongshore, MIT. Rendered from Markdown: HTML in the file is shown as text, images as links, and headings moved down two levels. Raw file

Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Artifact Validator needs Python for the scripts in its folder and the command-line tools its instructions call (python3). Our summary lists: Python 3. Its frontmatter pre-approves these tools: Read. Compatibility (from SKILL.md): Agent Skills-compatible hosts; validation depth depends on available authoritative tooling.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. The check reads SKILL.md only: the scripts in the folder are not scanned, so read them before running anything.
Artifact Validator is published under the MIT licence (declared in SKILL.md). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 1.2k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 4.7k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 627 tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.
