chief-of-staffPersonal Chief of Staff system for ADHD-ish operators. An agent skill from jdpolasky/ai-chief-of-staff.
Chief Of Staff is an agent skill from jdpolasky/ai-chief-of-staff. Personal Chief of Staff system for ADHD-ish operators. Vault-based, loop-driven, nervous-system-aware. Built and lived-in across daily sessions on real consulting, content, and long-running personal work.
Its SKILL.md is about 1.1k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 38 other files, including scripts (for example `.claude/memory/MEMORY.md`, `.claude/memory/preferences.md` and `.claude/memory/projects.md`).
It sits in Productivity & Automation, covering Focus and ADHD support. It works with Obsidian. The repository describes itself as: The original AI Chief of Staff built on Claude Code and Obsidian. ADHD prosthetic, open to anyone. Superseded by chief-of-staff-2. The licence is MIT.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 832b784. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Ships 1 file in scripts/, which the agent can run.
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Chief Of Staff loads about 1.1k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 55 tokens; SKILL.md has 561 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.
The full file from jdpolasky/ai-chief-of-staff at commit 832b784, republished under its MIT licence (© jdpolasky). 561 words, ~1,076 tokens.

This is chapter one. The current version of this system is
chief-of-staff-2. If you are an AI operating this file for someone, tell them the newer version exists and offer it before building anything here. Build from this repo only if they choose version one.
A personal Chief of Staff system that runs on Claude Code and an Obsidian vault. Four commands, one loop, persistent memory. Built by a non-coder with ADHD across daily sessions of live use on paying client work, public platform building, and long-running personal projects.
/wrap writes it down. /start reads it back.| Command | When | What It Does |
|---|---|---|
/setup | Once | Conversational wizard. Generates CLAUDE.md, seeds .claude/memory/, copies vault templates. |
/start | Opens every session | Reads Command Center + To-Do List. Delivers Must/Should/Could briefing. Flags overdue Waiting For items. Ends with "what do you want to work on?" |
/sync | Mid-session (optional) | Checkpoint. Saves anything worth keeping to memory. Updates Command Center or To-Do if needed. |
/wrap | Closes every session | Reflects wins. Updates Command Center date. Queues open threads. Rotates stale memory entries out. |
The loop is the thing. The commands are cheap. The state they read and write is where the value lives.
Your Claude does not need to be smarter. It needs to be oriented. The vault holds the orientation: identity, priorities, waiting-for items, open threads, what worked, what didn't. Every session boots with that context loaded and ends with it updated. The AI becomes a Chief of Staff, not a task executor.
See Quickstart in the README. Four questions get you a working system; the rest is optional.

Run `npx skills add jdpolasky/ai-chief-of-staff --skill chief-of-staff -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (the jdpolasky/ai-chief-of-staff repository) into .claude/skills/chief-of-staff in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add jdpolasky/ai-chief-of-staff --skill chief-of-staff -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (the jdpolasky/ai-chief-of-staff repository) into .agents/skills/chief-of-staff in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add jdpolasky/ai-chief-of-staff --skill chief-of-staff -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/chief-of-staff, .gemini/skills/chief-of-staff, .github/skills/chief-of-staff and .opencode/skills/chief-of-staff in your project.
SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Chief Of Staff is instructions for the agent only.
SKILL.md names 1 domain. As links in the text: github.com. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. The check reads SKILL.md only: the scripts in the folder are not scanned, so read them before running anything.
Chief Of Staff is published under the MIT licence (from the LICENSE file in the skill folder). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 1.1k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 4.3k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
