Build high-performance declarative UI with Jetpack Compose. An agent skill from HoangNguyen0403/agent-skills-standard.

  • Works in 3 steps: Hoist State Correctly → Optimize Recomposition → Handle Side Effects Properly
  • Writing Composable functions
  • SKILL.md covers Priority: P0 (CRITICAL), 1. Hoist State Correctly, 2. Optimize Recomposition and 3. Handle Side Effects Properly, plus 4 more sections
  • Instructions only: no scripts, shell commands, URLs or credentials in SKILL.md

What it does

Android Compose is an agent skill from HoangNguyen0403/agent-skills-standard. Build high-performance declarative UI with Jetpack Compose. Use when writing Composable functions, optimizing recomposition, hoisting state, or working with LazyColumn and side effects; defer deep-link and navigation routing to android-navigation.

Its SKILL.md is about 570 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 4 other files, including reference files (for example `evals/evals.json` and `references/implementation.md`).

It sits in Mobile, covering Android development. It works with Android and Jetpack Compose. The repository describes itself as: A collection of Agent Skills Standard and Best Practice for Programming Languages, Frameworks that help our AI Agent follow best practies on frameworks and programming laguages. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • Writing Composable functions
  • Optimizing recomposition
  • Working with LazyColumn and side effects
  • Defer deep-link and navigation routing to android-navigation

Example prompts

  • “/android-compose”

Workflow steps

3 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.

  1. Hoist State Correctly
  2. Optimize Recomposition
  3. Handle Side Effects Properly

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit b529c2d. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Android Compose loads about 568 tokens when it runs, and up to ~1.5k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 66 tokens; SKILL.md has 189 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~66
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~568
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~1.5k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Jetpack Compose Expert

Priority: P0 (CRITICAL)

Role: Android UI Performance Expert. Prioritize frame stability and state management.

1. Hoist State Correctly

  • Screen (Stateful) -> Content (Stateless).
  • Pass lambdas down (onItemClick: (Id) -> Unit).
  • NEVER pass ViewModel to stateless composables.
  • Use MaterialTheme.colorScheme, no hardcoded hex.

See implementation examples for state hoisting patterns.

2. Optimize Recomposition

  • Annotate params with @Stable or @Immutable.
  • Use key in LazyColumn items for stable identity.
  • Reuse or make Modifiers static where possible.
  • Use derivedStateOf for frequently updating derived values.

See implementation examples for derivedStateOf usage.

3. Handle Side Effects Properly

  • Use LaunchedEffect for one-shot or keyed side effects — never run side effects in composition body.
  • Move complex calculations to ViewModel or remember.

Anti-Patterns

  • No Side Effects in Composition Body: Use LaunchedEffect, not raw coroutines.
  • No VM Deep Pass: Hoist state; pass only data/callbacks.
  • No Heavy Computation in Composables: Offload to ViewModel or remember.

Verification

  • All stateless Composables have @Preview.
  • LazyColumn items use key parameter.
  • No ViewModel passed below Screen-level Composables.
  • ./gradlew build succeeds.
