scaffold-python-recipeCreates a new Python recipe for the ADK recipes repository by running a scaffold script that copies template files, after confirming the output directory and recipe name.
This skill creates a new Python ADK recipe inside the adk-recipes repository by running scripts/scaffold.py, never by writing boilerplate files by hand. The agent must have two inputs first and ask if either is missing: an output directory, chosen from contrib/python/ (community recipes, preferred), core/python/ (curated) or the legacy flat contrib/, and a recipe name made only of lowercase letters and hyphens, at most 30 characters, not starting or ending with a hyphen. An invalid name is explained and a corrected one requested.
The script takes exactly two flags, --name and --output-dir, and copies a template tree that includes an app with an agent module, a FastAPI-style app file and telemetry helpers, a manifest.yaml, pyproject.toml, a README, an .env.example and an eval setup with a basic evalset. After it succeeds, the agent tells you the recipe is ready and lists the next steps, making no further changes in that turn. Everything it creates is called a recipe, never a project, and vertical plugins under plugins/ are out of scope because no template for them exists yet.
2 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit fa9bdde. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Ships 1 file in scripts/ (Python, from the files we listed), which the agent can run.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
uvpython3From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use uv, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Scaffold Python ADK Recipe loads about 931 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 89 tokens; SKILL.md has 432 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.

scripts/scaffold.py to create the recipe. Never write the boilerplate files manually. You must have both pieces of information below before running the script. If either is missing or was not explicitly provided by the user, ask for it — do not assume or use a default.
The user must choose one of these valid locations:
contrib/python/ — community recipes; preferred for new Python recipescore/python/ — curated recipescontrib/ — legacy flat layout, still accepted; prefer contrib/python/If the user has not specified which directory, ask them to choose. Do not proceed until a valid choice is confirmed.
This skill cannot scaffold a vertical plugin (plugins/<vertical>/<solution>/). Those have a different shape — SKILL.md, EVAL.yaml, scripts/, assets/, references/, tests/unit/ — and no template ships for them yet. If the user asks for one, tell them so rather than scaffolding into the wrong place.
The recipe name must satisfy all of the following rules:
a-z, -)If the user provided a name, validate it against these rules before proceeding. If it is invalid, explain which rule it violates and ask for a corrected name. Do not proceed until a valid name is confirmed.
Execute the scaffold script:
python3 .agents/skills/scaffold-python-recipe/scripts/scaffold.py --name <RECIPE_NAME> --output-dir <OUTPUT_DIRECTORY>The script accepts exactly two flags: --name (required) and --output-dir (required). Do not pass any other flags.
Once the script succeeds, inform the user the recipe is ready and highlight the following required next steps:
manifest.yaml: Fill in the description, ownership.team, and ownership.poc fields (placeholders are marked with TODO:). This file is validated by CI and must not contain placeholder values. Use the generate-manifest skill if you want it populated automatically from the source code.README.md: Replace the generic title and description with details specific to this recipe (ownership/POC live in manifest.yaml, above — not in the README).Then, provide these quick-start commands:
cd <OUTPUT_DIRECTORY>/<RECIPE_NAME>
uv sync # install dependencies
uv run pytest # run the test suite
uv run adk run app # run the agent interactivelyDo not make any further changes. End your turn.

Scaffold Python ADK Recipe fits situations like: starting a new Python recipe in contrib/python; adding a curated recipe under core/python; checking whether a proposed recipe name is valid.

Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Scaffold Python ADK Recipe needs Python for the scripts in its folder and the command-line tools its instructions call (uv and python3). Our summary lists: Python 3 to run scripts/scaffold.py; A checkout of the adk-recipes repository.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Its commands use uv, which can reach the network depending on how they are called. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. The check reads SKILL.md only: the scripts in the folder are not scanned, so read them before running anything.
Scaffold Python ADK Recipe is published under the Apache-2.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 931 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 3.7k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
