unreal-mcp-overviewMaps the tools of the Flopperam Unreal Engine MCP server and how to choose among them when working with a live Unreal Editor.
This server controls a live Unreal Editor over WebSocket, so every tool acts on the running editor. A connection error usually means the editor is not running or the FlopAI plugin is not loaded. The overview is meant for the first connection, for picking the right tool for a task, and for answering what the server can do.
Before calling anything, the agent classifies the request: a question gets an answer from knowledge, with read-only tools only if specifics are needed; an inspection uses read-only tools and changes nothing; a modification follows an observe, execute, verify loop. When intent is unclear it answers rather than modifies.
Tools are grouped by area. Scene and level tools query, compose and inspect actors, levels, assets and project context. Read-only Blueprint tools give an overview, batched queries and a full export, while Blueprint authoring tools, marked paid tier, create classes, variables, components, graphs and nodes, wire them, and compile with a health report. Further groups such as materials are cut off in the supplied text.
3 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit b1b495b. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Unreal Engine MCP Overview loads about 1.7k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 70 tokens; SKILL.md has 672 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
Without a licence we can't republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 672 words (~1,664 tokens).

Unreal Engine MCP Overview fits situations like: connecting to a running Unreal Editor for the first time; deciding which MCP tool handles a scene, asset or Blueprint task; answering what the Unreal MCP server is able to do.
Run `npx skills add flopperam/unreal-engine-mcp --skill unreal-mcp-overview -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/unreal-mcp-overview in flopperam/unreal-engine-mcp) into .claude/skills/unreal-mcp-overview in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add flopperam/unreal-engine-mcp --skill unreal-mcp-overview -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/unreal-mcp-overview in flopperam/unreal-engine-mcp) into .agents/skills/unreal-mcp-overview in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add flopperam/unreal-engine-mcp --skill unreal-mcp-overview -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/unreal-mcp-overview, .gemini/skills/unreal-mcp-overview, .github/skills/unreal-mcp-overview and .opencode/skills/unreal-mcp-overview in your project.
SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Unreal Engine MCP Overview is instructions for the agent only. Our summary lists: A running Unreal Editor with the FlopAI plugin loaded; The Flopperam Unreal Engine MCP server connected.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
No licence was found for Unreal Engine MCP Overview or its repository. Without one, default copyright applies: ask the author before reusing or redistributing it.
About 1.7k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 6.7k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
