jppm-topic-selectionA skill your agent uses when testing whether a research question is policy-first enough for the Journal of Public Policy & Marketing (JPP&M), and which of its domains and paper shapes it fits…
Jppm Topic Selection is an agent skill from brycewang-stanford/Awesome-Journal-Skills. Use when testing whether a research question is policy-first enough for the Journal of Public Policy & Marketing (JPP&M), and which of its domains and paper shapes it fits, before design and data are locked. Settles fit and outlet; it does not build the theory of the policy lever (jppm-theory-development).
Its SKILL.md is about 1.5k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.
It sits in Research & Science, covering Hypothesis generation. The repository describes itself as: Journal-specific Claude Code/Codex skill packs covering mainstream journals — AER, QJE, Nature, Cell, 管理世界, 经济研究 & 200+ more — your fast track to getting published. | 覆盖主流期刊的… The licence is MIT.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 932eb23. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Jppm Topic Selection loads about 1.5k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 82 tokens; SKILL.md has 704 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from brycewang-stanford/Awesome-Journal-Skills at commit 932eb23, republished under its MIT licence (© brycewang-stanford). 704 words, ~1,500 tokens.
.claude/skills/jppm-topic-selection/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder).JPP&M publishes research where the policy question is the point, not the backdrop. A topic passes when three things are true: (a) there is a live policy conversation — an active rulemaking, enforcement controversy, legislative debate, or NGO campaign — that the study can inform; (b) marketing scholarship offers distinctive leverage on it (consumer response to disclosure formats, firm reactions to marketing restrictions, marketplace dynamics regulators cannot see from administrative data alone); and (c) there is at least one actionable margin: a design choice, threshold, scope decision, or enforcement priority a stakeholder actually controls. If you cannot draft a credible 300-word Policy Contribution Statement now — naming the conversation, the advance, and the stakeholders — the topic is not ready for this journal.
The journal's recurring domains: deceptive and unfair marketing practices; warnings, disclosures, and labeling (tobacco, alcohol, food/nutrition, dietary supplements); privacy, data collection, and algorithmic marketing; marketing to children and other vulnerable groups; financial products and consumer financial well-being; sustainability claims and greenwashing; health-care and pharmaceutical marketing; equity, access, and discrimination in marketplaces; social marketing for public health.
| If the core contribution is… | Aim at | Why not JPP&M |
|---|---|---|
| Evidence a policy actor can use on a marketing/consumer question | JPP&M | — |
| A psychological process behind consumer judgment | JCP / JCR | JPP&M wants the policy decision, not the mediator, as the headline |
| Firm strategy or marketing-mix effectiveness for managers | JM / JMR | The stakeholder there is the firm, not the regulator |
| Broad marketplace-systems critique without a policy instrument | Journal of Macromarketing | JPP&M expects an actionable lever |
| Household finance / consumer-affairs education focus | Journal of Consumer Affairs | overlapping turf; JPP&M leans harder on regulation and marketing practice |
| Program evaluation with no marketing content | JPAM / policy journals | JPP&M needs the marketing side of the exchange |
The trap that catches the most teams: a rigorous consumer experiment whose "policy implication" is generic ("regulators should consider…"). At JPP&M, reviewers ask which regulator, which instrument, which decision. If every answer is vague, the paper belongs at JCP or JCR.
【Policy conversation】the live debate, rule, or enforcement question
【Marketing leverage】what marketing scholarship uniquely contributes
【Actionable margin】the decision a named stakeholder controls
【Draft statement】conversation / advance / stakeholders in ≤3 lines
【Outlet verdict】JPP&M / reroute (where + why)

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Jppm Topic Selection is instructions for the agent only.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Jppm Topic Selection is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 1.5k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 6k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
