xlsxCreates, edits and analyzes spreadsheets (.xlsx, .xlsm, .csv, .tsv) with openpyxl and pandas, writing live formulas and recalculating to confirm zero formula errors.
Spreadsheet files, whether being opened, fixed, built from scratch or converted between tabular formats, are handled by picking a tool per job: openpyxl for creating or editing with formulas and formatting, pandas for bulk reads and writes, markitdown for a quick look at each sheet, and two load_workbook passes to read a model's formulas and values. These libraries are described as preinstalled.
Output requirements are strict: a professional font such as Arial or Times New Roman unless told otherwise, zero formula errors as reported by recalc.py, formulas rather than hardcoded results, literal compliance with the user's spec, and every assumption or hardcoded number documented where a reader will see it, with real sources cited. A workbook built for someone to fill in gets a short legend and one example row, while edits to an existing file must follow its conventions and touch only its designated input cells.
Recalculation is mandatory when formulas exist, since openpyxl stores them without cached values. The skill is not for Word reports, HTML, standalone scripts, database pipelines or Google Sheets API work, and its bundled files carry a proprietary licence.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 683bc88. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Ships 14 files in scripts/ (Python, from the files we listed), which the agent can run.

No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use pip, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.

Excel Spreadsheet Creation and Editing loads about 2.1k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 238 tokens; SKILL.md has 1,062 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.
Its licence (Proprietary) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 1,062 words (~2,136 tokens).
“openpyxl writes formulas as strings with no cached values. Until you recalculate, every formula cell reads back as None to anything reading cached values — pandas, load_workbook(data_only=True), and most previewers.”

Run `npx skills add anthropics/skills --skill xlsx -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/xlsx in anthropics/skills) into .claude/skills/xlsx in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add anthropics/skills --skill xlsx -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/xlsx in anthropics/skills) into .agents/skills/xlsx in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add anthropics/skills --skill xlsx -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/xlsx, .gemini/skills/xlsx, .github/skills/xlsx and .opencode/skills/xlsx in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Excel Spreadsheet Creation and Editing needs Python for the scripts in its folder and the command-line tools its instructions call (pip, python and markitdown). Our summary lists: Python with openpyxl, pandas and markitdown, which the skill treats as preinstalled.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Its commands use pip, which can reach the network depending on how they are called. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. The check reads SKILL.md only: the scripts in the folder are not scanned, so read them before running anything.
Excel Spreadsheet Creation and Editing carries a proprietary licence (declared in SKILL.md). It is published on GitHub, but it is not open source: read the licence file before using or sharing it.
About 2.1k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 8.5k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
