What it does

Update Dashboard is an agent skill from Abilityai/cornelius. Update dashboard.yaml with current knowledge base metrics from analysis report

Its SKILL.md is about 1.7k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Knowledge Management, covering Knowledge bases. The repository describes itself as: AI-powered second brain template for Claude Code + Obsidian. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • Tasks that involve Knowledge bases

Example prompts

  • “/update-dashboard”

Requirements

  • Pre-approved tools (allowed-tools): Read, Write, Bash, Glob

Workflow steps

5 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.

  1. Read Analysis Report
  2. Build Dashboard YAML
  3. Parse Metrics from Report
  4. Write Dashboard
  5. Confirm Update

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit fd5e9a4. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves these tools, so the agent can use them without asking each time:

    • Read
    • Write
    • Bash
    • Glob

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are yaml).

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Update Dashboard loads about 1.7k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 24 tokens; SKILL.md has 245 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~24
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~1.7k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check: notes

The automated check noted patterns worth knowing about, such as sudo or a known installer.

  • NotePre-approves every shell command (allowed-tools: Bash)SKILL.md
    allowed-tools: Read, Write, Bash, Glob

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

STEP 1: Read Analysis Report

Read knowledge-base-analysis.md from the project root

Extract the following metrics using regex or line parsing:

STEP 2: Build Dashboard YAML

Construct the dashboard with gathered values:

          - "Flow States & Peak Performance"
          - "Business & Content Marketing Psychology"
        style: bullet
        max_items: 7

STEP 3: Parse Metrics from Report

Use the following extraction logic:

For header metrics (line 5):
Pattern: **Total Notes:** (\d+,?\d*) | **Blocks:** (\d+,?\d*) | **Permanent Notes:** (\d+) | **AI Insights:** (\d+) | **Document Insights:** (\d+)
For table metrics (lines 14-25):
Look for lines with | Total notes | X,XXX | +XXX |
Extract value and change columns
For domain percentages (lines 389-398):
Pattern: AI/Agents.*:\s+(\d+)%
Pattern: Neuroscience.*:\s+(\d+)%
etc.

STEP 4: Write Dashboard

Write the constructed YAML to /home/developer/dashboard.yaml

Ensure:

  • All numeric values are integers (no commas in YAML)
  • Percentages are integers without % symbol
  • Trends use "up" or "down" based on change values
  • Date is in YYYY-MM-DD format

STEP 5: Confirm Update

Report what was updated:

Dashboard updated at {current_timestamp}

Metrics refreshed:
- Total Notes: {value} ({change})
- Permanent Notes: {value} ({change})
- AI Insights: {value} ({change})
- Document Insights: {value} ({change})
- Domain distribution: AI {X}%, Neuro {X}%, Buddhism {X}%...

Dashboard written to: /home/developer/dashboard.yaml

Scheduling

This skill can be scheduled via /trinity-schedules:

# Daily update (recommended)
/trinity-schedules add update-dashboard --cron "0 9 * * *"

# After each /analyze-kb run
Run manually: /update-dashboard

Note: Dashboard data is only as fresh as the last /analyze-kb run. Consider running analyze-kb before update-dashboard for accurate metrics.

Questions about Update Dashboard

What does Update Dashboard do?

Update dashboard.yaml with current knowledge base metrics from analysis report. Update Dashboard is an agent skill from Abilityai/cornelius.

When should I use Update Dashboard?

Update Dashboard fits situations like: tasks that involve Knowledge bases.

How do I install Update Dashboard in Claude Code?

Run `npx skills add Abilityai/cornelius --skill update-dashboard -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.claude/skills/update-dashboard in Abilityai/cornelius) into .claude/skills/update-dashboard in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

How do I install Update Dashboard in Codex?

Run `npx skills add Abilityai/cornelius --skill update-dashboard -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.claude/skills/update-dashboard in Abilityai/cornelius) into .agents/skills/update-dashboard in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.

Can I use Update Dashboard in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add Abilityai/cornelius --skill update-dashboard -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/update-dashboard, .gemini/skills/update-dashboard, .github/skills/update-dashboard and .opencode/skills/update-dashboard in your project.

What does Update Dashboard need to run?

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Update Dashboard is instructions for the agent only. Its frontmatter pre-approves these tools: Read, Write, Bash, Glob.

Does Update Dashboard access the network?

SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.

Is Update Dashboard safe to install?

Our automated static check of SKILL.md found notes only (pre-approves every shell command (allowed-tools: bash)), nothing it rates as a warning. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

What licence does Update Dashboard use?

Update Dashboard is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.

How many tokens does Update Dashboard use?

About 1.7k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 6.8k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.

What are the alternatives to Update Dashboard?

Skills that share tags, products or a category with Update Dashboard: Firecrawl Knowledge Base (firecrawl/skills, 116 stars), Kb Refresh (techwolf-ai/ai-first-toolkit, 132 stars), Cf Crawl (davila7/claude-code-templates, 32k stars) and Capture Conversation (outline/outline, 41k stars). The comparison table on this page puts their stars, adoption, token cost, safety result and licence side by side.

Who maintains Update Dashboard?
