Which Remotion Claude skill you want depends on what you are making. For general Remotion know-how, use the rule sets that cover compositions, timing and captions. For a finished product film, pick a skill that runs a whole interview-to-render workflow. For a video made from AI-generated clips, you are looking at a different kind of skill altogether.
This guide sorts the video skills in the directory by that job. Each entry has a "best for" line, requirements, licence as the directory records it, and a trade-off. The details come from the skills' SKILL.md files and repositories. The editorial team did not render videos with them for this comparison, so nothing here says how good the output looks. For the full list, browse the video generation topic and the video production topic.
The short list
| Skill | Best for | Needs | Licence | Automated check |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| google-labs-code/remotion (official) | Walkthrough videos of Stitch designs | Stitch MCP server, Remotion, Node.js | Apache-2.0 | Info finding |
| dtsola/remotion-best-practices | General Remotion rules | A Remotion project | No standard licence recorded | Passed |
| prismer-ai/remotion | Remotion Studio, Player, captions, media | Node.js | MIT | Passed |
| vincentwei1021/video-shotcraft | Cinematic product videos from shot recipes | Node.js, Remotion, Chrome | Apache-2.0 | Passed |
| rieranthony/product-film | Product film in your own brand | Remotion | MIT | Passed |
| ooiyeefei/motion-video | Marketing videos cut for each platform | Node.js, FFmpeg, Remotion | MIT | Passed |
| dtsola/video-podcast-maker | Topic to narrated video podcast | Remotion, FFmpeg, text-to-speech | MIT | Passed |
| heygen-com/hyperframes | Video from HTML instead of React | Node.js, FFmpeg | Apache-2.0 | Passed |
"Passed" means the directory's static check reported no findings. It says nothing about output quality.
Remotion rule sets: the foundation
Remotion publishes its own agent skills in its official skills repository, installed with npx skills add remotion-dev/skills. They are split into a general best-practices skill plus separate ones for creating projects, studio preview, rendering, captions, maps and more. That repository is not itself listed in the directory, so what you find here are copies and variants, and it is worth knowing which is which.
dtsola/remotion-best-practices is the one you will meet most often, because several other repositories carry a copy under the same name. It is a short skill, about 900 tokens, that points the agent to separate rule files for animation, compositions, audio, captions, charts, 3D, fonts, maps and media handling. Its name and layout match the official best-practices skill, but we could not confirm it is an unmodified copy. The directory records no standard licence for it, so check the repository before you redistribute it. If you want the maintained version, install Remotion's own.
prismer-ai/remotion is MIT-licensed and larger, around 4,000 tokens. It covers compositions, Studio, the Player, the @remotion packages, captions, media processing and maps, and it mentions Mediabunny for media inspection. It needs Node.js and uses npx, npm and ffprobe. The trade-off is weight: it loads a lot of text for jobs that need one rule.
davila7/remotion is a compact MIT-licensed guide of about 1,600 tokens covering animations, compositions and media handling, with one further copy in another repository. Pick it if you want a single small file rather than a rule folder.
av/remotion-bits does something different: it finds and adapts ready-made animation examples, from text effects to particle and 3D scenes. It works through the remotion-bits command line or MCP server and needs a Remotion project. The directory records no licence for it, so confirm the terms in the repository.
Skills that run a whole video job
google-labs-code/remotion
Best for: turning a Stitch design project into a walkthrough video.
google-labs-code/remotion is published by Google Labs in its Stitch skills repository and is licensed Apache-2.0. The workflow pulls screens and screenshots from a Stitch project through the Stitch MCP server, builds a screen slide component and a walkthrough composition, lets you adjust timing in Remotion Studio, then renders with the Remotion CLI or MCP server.
Requirements: access to the Stitch MCP server, the Remotion MCP server or CLI, Node.js and npm, and a Stitch project with designed screens.
Trade-off: it is only useful if your designs live in Stitch. The directory's check returned an informational finding because the skill's allowed-tools setting permits any shell command, so know that the agent can run commands with fewer prompts. Three other copies of the skill sit inside a community collection, so use the official one.
rieranthony/product-film
Best for: a polished product film built from your own design tokens and components.
rieranthony/product-film is MIT-licensed. It starts with an interview about scope, writes a brand file, produces a beat sheet and three style frames, then builds the film in Remotion with motion driven by time rather than CSS animation. It generates stills at each handoff and, after the final render, decodes the first frame to check colors. The skill states that it must only depict what the product really does.
Requirements: Remotion, plus the product's own design tokens, components and copy.
Trade-off: the approval gates are slow by design. For a quick social clip they are overkill.
vincentwei1021/video-shotcraft
Best for: teams that want a library of shot recipes and a ready-made template.
vincentwei1021/video-shotcraft is Apache-2.0 licensed. Its README describes a large set of shot recipe cards, a runnable template of about 36 seconds at 1920 by 1080, bundled sound effects, and a browser editor for adjusting a finished video. It builds on real page screenshots and camera moves.
Requirements: Node.js 22, Remotion and Chrome or Chromium. The audio files follow separate terms listed in an attribution file in the repository.
Trade-off: it is the most opinionated skill here, so expect your video to start from its template's look.
ooiyeefei/motion-video
Best for: explainer and launch videos that must be exported for several platforms.
ooiyeefei/motion-video is MIT-licensed. It treats rendered scenes as the story and adds one real product capture as proof. A bundled script exports the same project in vertical, widescreen, portrait and square formats without cropping, and a reference file maps each platform's safe zones. It also tells the agent to keep figures truthful and to flag Remotion licensing for larger teams.
Requirements: Node.js, FFmpeg, a Remotion project and access to the product's repository for its font, logo and palette.
dtsola/video-podcast-maker
Best for: a narrated video built from a topic.
dtsola/video-podcast-maker is MIT-licensed. It chains research, scripting, text-to-speech, Remotion rendering and background music into a 4K horizontal video, and it can learn styles from reference videos.
Requirements: Remotion with the best-practices skill, FFmpeg, a text-to-speech backend (edge is the default) and Python 3 for a prerequisites check.
A non-React alternative: HyperFrames
heygen-com/hyperframes is Apache-2.0 and renders video from HTML with timing set in data-* attributes rather than React components. The skill is an entry point that routes requests to workflows for slideshows, captions, motion graphics, product launch videos, faceless explainers and more. The project's repository says it needs Node.js 22 or newer and FFmpeg, and installs through a Claude Code plugin marketplace command or npx skills add. A companion skill, heygen-com/remotion-to-hyperframes, ports an existing Remotion composition across one way.
Choose it if your team writes HTML and CSS more happily than React, or if you are weighing frameworks before you commit.
Generative video is a different job
The video generation topic also holds skills that call AI video models. They need credentials and often cost money per clip, so check requirements first. For example, hassancs91/make-ai-short is MIT-licensed and needs a fal API key and an ElevenLabs key in a .env file, and the directory flagged the .env reference as an informational finding. nousresearch/ai-presenter-video is MIT-licensed, needs one image of an authorized adult presenter and billable avatar and voice generation, and keeps captions and lip-sync checks in its workflow. harry0703/moneyprinterturbo-video is MIT-licensed and expects API keys for several services, and the directory's check raised a warning about pre-authorization text and piped installers, so read it before running it.
One Remotion skill, aeonfun/remotion, also got a warning for hidden characters and instruction-like phrasing. A warning is a prompt to review, not a verdict.
How to choose and install
Start with Remotion's own skills for rules, then add one job skill. Use Product Film Builder for brand fidelity, Video Shotcraft for templates, Motion Video for multi-format exports, and Stitch to Remotion only if you design in Stitch. Add digitalsamba/ffmpeg if you need command recipes for trimming and converting media. Remotion's licence is separate from every skill's licence, so read the Remotion licence page before commercial use.
Installation steps differ by agent, so use the pages for Claude Code and Codex. If your video starts from research, the web scraping and search skills comparison covers gathering sources, and the top skills list shows what else people use.
Frequently asked questions
What is a Remotion skill?
It is a SKILL.md file that teaches an agent how to build video in Remotion, the framework that renders video from React components. Some skills hold general rules for compositions, timing and captions. Others walk through a complete job, such as a product film or a walkthrough video, and many call the Remotion command line to preview and render.
Is Remotion free to use with these skills?
The skills carry their own licences, but Remotion has separate licence terms that apply to the framework itself. Several skills warn that larger companies may need a paid Remotion licence. Read the terms on the Remotion website before you use it commercially.
What is the difference between a Remotion skill and a video generation skill?
A Remotion skill writes code that renders a video frame by frame, so the same input gives the same output. A video generation skill sends prompts to an AI video model and handles the clips that come back. Generation skills usually need a paid API key, while Remotion skills need Node.js and a rendering setup.
Which skill is best for a product launch video?
For a launch film that reuses your own design tokens and brand, the Product Film Builder is the closest match, and the Video Shotcraft skill suits teams that want ready-made shot recipes and a template. Both build in Remotion and need Node.js. Check each skill's requirements before starting.
Can I use these skills in Codex as well as Claude Code?
Skills are folders with a SKILL.md file, and several agents read that format. Whether a given video skill runs in Codex depends on tools it expects, such as Node.js, FFmpeg or an MCP server. The agent pages on this site list where each agent looks for skills.
