What it does

Controlled Waiting is an agent skill from zjunlp/SkillNet. Executes timed waiting using 'wait' or 'wait1' actions to advance the simulation clock. Use when a time-dependent process like plant growth, chemical reaction, or mechanical cycle must progress before you can continue the task.

Its SKILL.md is about 340 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 2 other files, including reference files (for example `references/botanical_growth_patterns.md`).

The repository describes itself as: Create, Evaluate, and Connect AI Skills. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • A time-dependent process like plant growth
  • Chemical reaction
  • Mechanical cycle must progress before you can continue the task

Example prompts

  • “Use the controlled-waiting skill to execute timed waiting using 'wait' or 'wait1' actions to advance the simulation clock”
  • “/controlled-waiting”

Workflow steps

4 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Confirm the process is active (seeds planted, device activated, etc.).
  2. wait (advances 10 steps) for long processes, or wait1 (1 step) for fine-grained observation.
  3. look around or examine to check if the target state has been reached.
  4. If not reached, repeat steps 2-3. If reached, exit and resume the main task.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 3fcebf8. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Controlled Waiting loads about 336 tokens when it runs, and up to ~721 if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 62 tokens; SKILL.md has 165 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~62
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~336
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~721

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Skill: Controlled Waiting

When to Use

After initiating a process with a time delay, when no other productive actions are possible.

Procedure

  1. Confirm the process is active (seeds planted, device activated, etc.).
  2. wait (advances 10 steps) for long processes, or wait1 (1 step) for fine-grained observation.
  3. look around or examine <OBJECT> to check if the target state has been reached.
  4. If not reached, repeat steps 2-3. If reached, exit and resume the main task.

Duration guidance: Use wait for biological growth stages. Use wait1 when observing rapid changes or when close to the expected transition.

Example

Task: Wait for a banana tree to produce fruit after planting.

  1. Confirm seeds are planted and watered.
  2. wait (advances 10 steps)
  3. look around — check if banana is visible on the tree.
  4. No banana yet → wait again.
  5. look around — observe: "a banana tree (with a banana)" → exit skill and proceed to harvest.

Refer to references/botanical_growth_patterns.md for common plant growth stage timings.
