At a glance

Pushes the current branch to your fork and opens a cross-repository GitHub pull request, with a strict check against leaking customer data into public text.

  • Works in 7 steps: Commit pending changes → 5: PG code style pass (only when… → Base branch → …
  • Publishing a finished branch as a pull request to the upstream repository
  • SKILL.md covers Confidentiality — read before…, Prerequisites, Workflow and Pushing follow-up commits, plus 2 more sections
  • Calls gh, git and jq

What it does

This skill publishes the current branch as a cross-repository GitHub pull request. It pushes to the contributor's personal fork of yugabyte/yugabyte-db and opens the PR against the upstream repo with the gh CLI, using the allowed script .agents/scripts/create-pr.sh. It assumes contributors have no push access upstream, so the fork route is the only one.

Much of the skill is a confidentiality gate, because upstream issues, PR text, comments, commit messages and branch names are all public and permanent. It lists what must never appear: customer-identifying data, including in the branch name, so a branch is named after the change and not the customer; personal data such as real names, emails and IP addresses, replaced with documentation ranges and placeholders like example.com; unanonymized customer schemas or queries, rebuilt as a minimal synthetic reproducer; and secrets, tokens and internal URLs.

When your agent uses it

  • Publishing a finished branch as a pull request to the upstream repository
  • Opening a cross-repo PR from a personal fork with the gh CLI
  • Checking PR titles, descriptions and branch names for customer or personal data
  • Rewriting a customer-based reproducer into a synthetic one before it goes public

Example prompts

  • “Open a PR for my current branch against upstream from my fork.”
  • “Before you push, check that the branch name and commit messages don't mention any customer.”
  • “Rewrite the failing query from this support case as a minimal synthetic reproducer for the PR description.”

Requirements

  • GitHub CLI (gh), authenticated
  • A personal fork of the upstream repository
  • Pre-approved tools (allowed-tools): Bash(.agents/scripts/create-pr.sh *)

Workflow steps

7 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.

  1. Commit pending changes
  2. 5: PG code style pass (only when src/postgres files changed)
  3. Base branch
  4. Gather PR metadata
  5. Build the title
  6. Run create-pr.sh to lint, push, and open the PR
  7. Report back to the user

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit cdf582d. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves these tools, so the agent can use them without asking each time:

    • Bash(.agents/scripts/create-pr.sh *)

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • gh
    • git
    • jq

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

Links to these hosts (documentation or services it may open):

    • cli.github.com

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Create Fork Pull Request loads about 5.7k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 34 tokens; SKILL.md has 3,185 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~34
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~5.7k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

SKILL.md

Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 3,185 words (~5,650 tokens).
