- 说话人要交代得清楚。 并进句子里（「她问道：『……』」）、跟在话后带上动作（「『……』她说，手指还按在门框上」）、或者让上一个动作把人带出来；连着来回的对话里省掉提示语是常态，前提是读者始终知道谁在开口。把提示语从句子里剥出来单独占一行（一行只有「她说。」），孤立一两次是节拍工具，成为习惯就是口癖。
- 句子长短跟着情绪走。 该短就短、该展开就展开：紧张、决断、砸落点用短句；交代、铺陈、心里绕弯子的地方要敢写长，一句话把因果和情绪一并交清楚，比切成三段更好读。把整章都压成短句会让读者为读懂一句话回头重看——那是认知负荷，不是节奏感。
- 对白在做事。 人物开口通常在试探、遮掩、说服、拖延、靠近、推开或保住面子，不在替作者交代信息。他可以答非所问，可以说一半就被打断；两个人都知道的事不会为了读者重念一遍，角色也不会轮流替作者讲主题。一场戏里谁想从对方那儿拿到什么，读者要能从话里看出来。
- 每场戏走完要换掉一点东西。 进场前先知道在场的人各想从对方那儿拿到什么，离场时至少有一样变了：信息、关系、计划、风险、谁说了算、谁明白了什么、谁的情绪翻了面。只有环境、寒暄和设定交代，没有人换办法，这场戏就该压短或并掉。
- 性格藏在选择里。 不给人物贴善良、精明、冷漠的标签，写他在谁面前退让、碰到什么会撒谎、擅长解决哪种麻烦、又总在哪一步犯同一个错。配角也有自己眼下要办的事——只负责递消息、制造误会或夸主角的人，读者一眼就看出是工具。
- 细节跟着视角走。 紧张的人先看出口，等钱的人留意手机亮没亮，心虚的人记得对方沉默了多久。这一段跟着谁，就只写他此刻能知道、会注意的东西；换人跟的时候要让读者立刻知道现在跟的是谁。
- 设定等人物碰到再讲。 一条规则先问它改变谁的行动、谁因此得利、谁要付代价；人物还没碰上，正文通常不用提前介绍。陌生名词一次少来几个，先让读者看见它怎么被用，再补名字和来历。规则可以被人物误解，但不能在需要救场时临时改掉。
- 场景与概述交替。 关键选择、关系变化、秘密暴露、无法撤回的动作用场景慢下来；重复劳动、长途赶路、读者已经明白的过程概述带过。全是场景时间走不动，全是概述读者碰不到人。
- 转折从已经埋下的东西里长出来。 关键转折尽量来自人物此前的行动、关系和已经立过的规则；车祸、绝症、突然冒出来的新设定不反复救场。要用意外，先在前文留下条件或代价。
