Vellum Client Capabilities is an agent skill from vellum-ai/vellum-assistant. Truthful answers about what the Vellum client apps can and cannot do on the user's device. Device location and GPS are unavailable in every client and there is no location permission prompt to approve, so location requests are answered by asking for a typed city or address instead.
Its SKILL.md is about 1.2k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts. Compatibility notes: Designed for Vellum personal assistants
It sits in Agent Workflows, covering Human-in-the-loop approvals. It works with Chrome Extensions and Linux. The repository describes itself as: An AI Assistant that’s easy to setup, does your work 24/7, knows your preferences and gets better over time. The licence is MIT.
3 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 33cc983. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

Vellum Client Capabilities loads about 1.2k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 77 tokens; SKILL.md has 566 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from vellum-ai/vellum-assistant at commit 33cc983, republished under its MIT licence (© vellum-ai). 566 words, ~1,151 tokens.
.claude/skills/vellum-client-capabilities/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder).Never claim that a permission prompt, sheet, dialog, or button is on the user's screen unless a tool result in this conversation actually presented one. Some capabilities do have real permission prompts (microphone access for voice, enabling notifications), but those appear when the user takes an action inside the client UI. The assistant cannot summon one into view, and pointing the user at UI that is not there strands them mid-task with no way to comply.
No Vellum client can read the device's location. Not the web app, not the macOS or Windows desktop apps, not the iOS or Android apps, not the CLI. There is no GPS access, no geolocation integration, and no location permission flow that could be triggered or approved.
When the user asks you to use their current, live, or nearby location:
Do not stall the task waiting for a permission grant that cannot arrive, and do not send the user to OS settings; there is no Vellum entry there to enable.
Settings has a "Timezone" field, set by searching for a city or UTC offset. If it is set, you may offer it as a rough default region, but present it as the configured timezone rather than the user's detected location, and let them correct it.
It does not exist today in any client. The honest answer is that they can mention a place per request, or set the Timezone field in Settings as a standing default.
Tell the user only what is actually downloadable. Do not invent a Linux desktop installer.
For install, pricing, or "how do I install you" questions, also load vellum-self-knowledge and fetch Installation, FAQ, and Pricing from the docs. Do not answer those from memory.
When a task needs a logged-in browser or a host computer (internal pages, company SSO, VPN-only dashboards, local files, or host shell):
On iOS or Android there is no in-app browser, no Chrome extension to install on the phone, and no host computer. Offer the desktop app or Chrome extension on a computer. Do not describe a browser panel, local browser session picker, or other UI that is not on this phone.
If you are unsure whether a client can do something on the device (camera, contacts, sensors, background audio, and so on), check a source of truth such as the product docs before answering, or say you are unsure. Never assume a capability exists because typical mobile apps have it, and never describe UI for it that you have not seen presented.

Vellum Client Capabilities fits situations like: tasks that involve Human-in-the-loop approvals.
Run `npx skills add vellum-ai/vellum-assistant --skill vellum-client-capabilities -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/vellum-client-capabilities in vellum-ai/vellum-assistant) into .claude/skills/vellum-client-capabilities in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add vellum-ai/vellum-assistant --skill vellum-client-capabilities -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/vellum-client-capabilities in vellum-ai/vellum-assistant) into .agents/skills/vellum-client-capabilities in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add vellum-ai/vellum-assistant --skill vellum-client-capabilities -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others).
