What it does

The skill searches agentmemory with memory_smart_search using your text as the query, shows the matching session ids, memory ids and titles, and waits for explicit confirmation before deleting anything. Deletion is irreversible, so a vague or missing answer does not count. On a yes it calls memory_governance_delete with the memory IDs and an optional reason.

To remove a whole session, it collects every memory id from that session, because the MCP does not accept a bare session id. Lessons are a separate store and are removed with memory_lesson_delete. The agent reports the real deletion count, and a count of 0 means the ids did not exist, which it says plainly. An EXAMPLES.md file and a shared troubleshooting file cover cases where the tools are unavailable.

When your agent uses it

  • Removing a specific note or secret from agent memory for privacy
  • Deleting outdated memories after confirming the matches
  • Clearing all memories from one session
  • Deleting a stored lesson

Example prompts

  • “Forget the old API key I mentioned in the config discussion.”
  • “Delete the memories about the staging password, but show me what matches first.”
  • “Remove everything stored from yesterday's debugging session.”

Requirements

Workflow steps

6 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 007a1a7. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are json).

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Agentmemory Forget loads about 612 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 57 tokens; SKILL.md has 265 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~57
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~612

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Quick start

json
memory_smart_search { "query": "old api key in config", "limit": 20 }

Show the matches, get a yes, then:

json
memory_governance_delete { "memoryIds": ["abc12345", "def67890"], "reason": "user privacy request" }

Expected output:

text
Found 2 matching memories. Confirmed. Deleted 2 memories.

Why

This is destructive and irreversible. Show exactly what will be deleted and get an explicit yes before calling delete. Delete by memory ID, never a bare session.

Workflow

  1. Search with memory_smart_search, the user's text as query, limit: 20.
  2. Show what matched: session ids, memory ids, titles. Ask for explicit confirmation. Do not proceed on silence or a vague "sure, whatever".
  3. On confirmation, call memory_governance_delete with memoryIds (array or comma-separated string) and optional reason (default plugin skill request).
  4. To drop a whole session, collect every memory id in that session from the search results and pass them all. The MCP does not accept a bare sessionId.
  5. Lessons are separate: delete one with memory_lesson_delete and its lessonId; memory_governance_delete does not touch lessons.
  6. Report the deletion count back. A count of 0 means the ids did not exist; say so instead of claiming a delete.

Anti-patterns

WRONG: search returns matches, you immediately call memory_governance_delete without showing them or waiting for a yes.

RIGHT: list the matches, ask "Delete these 2? (yes/no)", and only delete after an explicit yes.

Checklist

  • Matches were shown to the user before any delete.
  • An explicit yes was received, not assumed.
  • memoryIds holds real ids from the search, never a bare sessionId.
  • Final message states the actual count deleted.

  • remember: the write side; forget is its undo.
  • recall: find the exact memory id before deleting.

Troubleshooting
