What it does

Flexbox Patterns is an agent skill from thedaviddias/Front-End-Checklist. Use when reviewing stylesheets, component styles, and responsive behavior related to Apply Flexbox best practices. Check the rendered layout across breakpoints and interaction states before proposing a fix.

Its SKILL.md is about 480 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 2 other files, including reference files (for example `references/rule.md`).

It sits in Frontend & Design, covering CSS and styling. The repository describes itself as: 🗂 The essential checklist for modern web development, for humans and AI agents. The licence is MIT.

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit e8d14d0. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

Context cost

Flexbox Patterns loads about 479 tokens when it runs, and up to ~1.4k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 56 tokens; SKILL.md has 201 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~56
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~479
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~1.4k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Apply Flexbox best practices

Flexbox is one of the most used CSS features, but its unintuitive default values (flex-shrink:1, min-width:auto) cause layout bugs that are hard to diagnose. Understanding the flex shorthand and the min-width:0 fix prevents the most common Flexbox breakage scenarios.

Quick Reference

  • Flexbox is for one-dimensional layouts (a row OR a column)
  • Use flex: 1 1 0 (shorthand: flex:1) for equal-width items that fill space
  • Add min-width: 0 to flex children when text overflow truncation doesn't work
  • Use gap instead of margin for spacing between flex items

Check

Review this CSS for common Flexbox mistakes: missing min-width:0 on text-containing flex children, using margin instead of gap for spacing, and improper flex shorthand usage.

Fix

Fix the Flexbox layout issues: add min-width:0 where needed, replace inter-item margins with gap, and correct flex shorthand values.

Explain

Explain how flex-grow, flex-shrink, and flex-basis work, what the flex shorthand means, and why min-width:0 fixes text overflow in flex layouts.

Code Review

Review stylesheets, component styles, and responsive states related to Apply Flexbox best practices. Flag exact selectors, declarations, or breakpoints that violate the rule in the rendered UI.
