cultivating-skillsDistills repeated workflows into new skills, improves existing ones and promotes them through local, project and community tiers after a default-deny safety scan.
Three modes trigger the skill: distill, when the agent notices the same kind of operation repeated at least three times and proposes a skill for your confirmation, create, from an explicit /cultivate-skill request, and improve, which patches an existing skill that misses a scenario. New skills start at the local tier in your home skills folder, move to project level inside the repository for team sharing with stricter linting, and finally to a community candidate pool through an issue or PR with a safety scan.
Before a skill is written to disk it must pass safety_scan: a unique kebab-case name, a description of at least 40 characters, declared user invocability, tools limited to Read by default with reasons for anything wider, no hard-coded secrets, and no dangerous templates or prompt-injection anti-patterns. The scaffold command is node scripts/skill_forge.js init with a tier option, followed by scan, lint and your review of the diff. Reference files cover creation, improvement, distillation signals, safety review and publishing, and the SKILL.md is written in Chinese.
4 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 2544577. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves these tools, so the agent can use them without asking each time:
BashReadWriteEditGrepFrom allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Ships 1 file in scripts/ (JavaScript), which the agent can run.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

node>=18
From compatibility in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Skill Cultivation Funnel loads about 794 tokens when it runs, and up to ~4.6k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 95 tokens; SKILL.md has 127 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check noted patterns worth knowing about, such as sudo or a known installer.
allowed-tools: Bash, Read, Write, Edit, GrepAutomated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.
The full file from telagod/code-abyss at commit 2544577, republished under its MIT licence (© telagod). 127 words, ~794 tokens.

Run `npx skills add telagod/code-abyss --skill cultivating-skills -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/cultivating-skills in telagod/code-abyss) into .claude/skills/cultivating-skills in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add telagod/code-abyss --skill cultivating-skills -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/cultivating-skills, .gemini/skills/cultivating-skills, .github/skills/cultivating-skills and .opencode/skills/cultivating-skills in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Skill Cultivation Funnel needs JavaScript for the scripts in its folder and the command-line tools its instructions call (node). Our summary lists: Node.js 18 or later, for scripts/skill_forge.js. Its frontmatter pre-approves these tools: Bash, Read, Write, Edit, Grep. Compatibility (from SKILL.md): node>=18.
SKILL.md names 1 domain. As links in the text: telagod.github.io. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found notes only (pre-approves every shell command (allowed-tools: bash)), nothing it rates as a warning. It is not a guarantee. The check reads SKILL.md only: the scripts in the folder are not scanned, so read them before running anything.
Skill Cultivation Funnel is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 794 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 3.2k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 3.8k tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.
Skills that share tags, products or a category with Skill Cultivation Funnel: Darwin Skill Optimizer (alchaincyf/darwin-skill, 6.2k stars), Skill Creator (zhayujie/CowAgent, 47k stars), Open-Science Skill Creator (aipoch/open-science, 5.5k stars) and Skill Quality Reviewer (Galaxy-Dawn/claude-scholar, 5.7k stars).
