What it does

Undercover is an agent skill from teddytennant/wizard. Keep git history clean in public repos. Use when writing commits, PR titles/bodies, or any text that will land in a public remote. Strips AI attribution habits and blocks leaking project-sensitive terms.

Its SKILL.md is about 340 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 1 other file.

It sits in Development, covering Git workflow. The repository describes itself as: The fastest agent in your terminal. The licence is Apache-2.0.

When your agent uses it

  • Writing commits
  • PR titles/bodies
  • Any text that will land in a public remote

Example prompts

  • “/undercover”

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit b4290bf. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

Links to these hosts (documentation or services it may open):

    • github.com

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Undercover loads about 335 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 54 tokens; SKILL.md has 150 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~54
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~335

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

1.0.0

Undercover

You are writing text that may land in a public git history. Keep it clean.

Rules

  • Describe only what the change does. Write like a human developer on the project.
  • Do not add AI-assistant attribution: no "Generated with …", no "Co-Authored-By: <assistant>", no robot emoji footer, no mention that an AI wrote the change.
  • Do not put project blocklist terms (codenames, client names, internal URLs from .undercover.json if present) into commits, PR text, comments, or docs meant for the remote.
  • Prefer concrete subjects: "Fix race in file watcher init", not "Update code for better reliability".

When this applies

Default assumption for public remotes: on. Private remotes the user trusts may turn it off; if they have .undercover.json with mode, follow it. Session override: UNDERCOVER=on / UNDERCOVER=off.

Not a substitute for hooks

This skill is the model-facing reminder. For enforce-on-commit guards, install the full Undercover plugin from https://github.com/teddytennant/undercover (Wizard hooks + /undercover status).
