expressA skill your agent uses to build an XS (express-lane) feature in one pass — intake→implement→verify in a single context, no handoff chain, code-first.
Express is an agent skill from swingerman/engineer. Use to build an XS (express-lane) feature in one pass — intake→implement→verify in a single context, no handoff chain, code-first. Triggers — "/engineer.express", "express build", building a feature whose gateprofile.lane is express.
Its SKILL.md is about 1.1k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.
It sits in Testing & QA. The repository describes itself as: Disciplined Agentic Engineering — a methodology kit for Claude Code: acceptance-test-first specs, explicit checkpoints, and autonomy you can actually leave running. The engineer… The licence is MIT.
7 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 32947eb. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md.

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

Express loads about 1.1k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 61 tokens; SKILL.md has 525 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from swingerman/engineer at commit 32947eb, republished under its MIT licence (© swingerman). 525 words, ~1,131 tokens.
.claude/skills/express/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder). The express lane for size: XS features (${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/references/express-lane.md).
One born-die agent runs intake → implement → verify in a single context — no
CP2→CP8 handoff chain, no sub-agents, no acs.md/spec.md/plan.md. The
acceptance test is the spec; docs stay capped below code. Same tracker row and
deterministic gates as any feature — just without the per-checkpoint re-prime
that dominates a normal feature's cost.
Runs after feature-init has created the size: XS feature (or a converged
prototype landed at prototype_disposition: in-place).
feature-init handed off a feature with gate_profile.lane: express.in-place) — the prototype code is the starting
implementation.Not for: anything charter-flagged (payments/auth/migration/blast-radius),
autonomy_level: low, or bigger than ~1 PR — those take the full pipeline. If
you find yourself here on one of them, escalate (Step 5).
Do the whole thing in one context. No sub-agents, no inter-phase handoffs.
${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/scripts/dae_resolve.py;
load feature.md + CHARTER.md (+ prototype/ if in-place). Enforce branch
hygiene via ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/scripts/dae_branch.py. Re-check the
guardrails — charter-flagged or autonomy_level: low → stop, hand to the
full pipeline (discover-acs); express is not for those.acs.md + spec.md; do not write them.feature.md, and only if
the diff is not self-evident. Prototype in-place: the prototype code is the
start — clean it, don't rewrite.${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/scripts/dae_ontology.py + dae_arch. LLM attention
only on red. No mutation, no gauntlet, no review-panel.acs.md/spec.md/plan.md, hand
to discover-acs/plan, keep the tracker row and branch. Never downgrade
silently.references/tracker.md). Back gate is verify: light — present it as a
choice point (${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/references/choice-points.md): recommend
merge on green gates, autonomy_level-dialed. Honor the external-write gate
(PR merge is human unless verify: auto + dae_mergeready green).Emit per ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/references/handoff-summary.md. One handoff for
the whole lane (not one per phase) — checkpoint: null: express is off the
numbered pipeline (like discuss/prototype), so it carries no CP2→CP8 stop
and its deterministic gates — not an independent LLM reviewer — are the verifier
(the disjoint-verifier principle is satisfied by the scripts, and the numbered-
pipeline completeness checks do not apply to an XS feature). recommended_next:
"review the PR" (or auto-merge note if verify: auto). On escalation, the
feature joins the numbered pipeline — emit status: escalated naming what
tripped and pointing at discover-acs (CP2 onward).

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Express is instructions for the agent only.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

About 1.1k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 4.5k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
