Explore is an agent skill from strands-agents/box. Launch a deep, multi-faceted investigation of a topic using parallel sub-agents. Each agent tackles a different angle simultaneously, and findings are synthesized into structured exploration documents.
Its SKILL.md is about 1.8k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.
It sits in Agent Workflows, covering Subagents. The repository describes itself as: Run AI agents in a sandbox that restricts what they can execute, read, write, and reach on the network. Box combines OS isolation with default-deny Dogwood policies and… The licence is Apache-2.0.
4 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 2c874ea. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are markdown and mermaid).
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Explore loads about 1.8k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 52 tokens; SKILL.md has 420 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from strands-agents/box at commit 2c874ea, republished under its Apache-2.0 licence (© strands-agents). 420 words, ~1,848 tokens.

Before launching agents, understand what we're exploring:
Facet selection guidelines:
Dispatch one agent per facet using the Agent tool, all in a single message for maximum parallelism.
Each agent prompt must include:
Agent prompt template:
You are exploring: {topic} — specifically the "{facet}" angle.
## Investigation goals
{2-3 specific questions this agent should answer}
## How to investigate
- Read source files, trace execution paths, check test coverage
- Look at imports/exports to understand dependency graphs
- Check for patterns, anti-patterns, inconsistencies
- Note anything surprising or potentially problematic
## Report format
Return a structured markdown report with:
1. **Summary** (2-3 sentences)
2. **Findings** (detailed, with file:line references and code snippets)
3. **Diagram** (mermaid diagram showing relationships/flow)
4. **Observations** (patterns, risks, opportunities, surprises)
Be thorough. Include file paths and line numbers for every claim.
Do NOT write any files — just return your findings as text.Once all agents complete:
Derive a topic slug from the exploration topic (kebab-case, 2-4 words, e.g. auth-patterns, routing-system, sdk-error-handling). Create the output folder:
.agents/explorations/YYYY-MM-DD/<topic-slug>/overview.exp.md (write this LAST, after all facet docs):
# {Topic} — Exploration Overview
> Explored on YYYY-MM-DD
## TL;DR
{3-5 bullet points with the most important findings}
## Facets Explored
| Facet | Key Finding | Doc |
|-------|-------------|-----|
| {facet-1} | {one-liner} | [{facet-1}.exp.md](./{facet-1}.exp.md) |
| {facet-2} | {one-liner} | [{facet-2}.exp.md](./{facet-2}.exp.md) |
| ... | ... | ... |
## Cross-Cutting Themes
{Patterns and insights that emerged across multiple facets}
## Risks & Opportunities
{Things that look fragile, inconsistent, or ripe for improvement}
## Open Questions
{Questions that came up but weren't fully answered — threads to pull later}Each facet doc (<facet-name>.exp.md):
# {Topic} — {Facet Name}
> Part of [{Topic} exploration](./overview.exp.md) | YYYY-MM-DD
## Summary
{2-3 sentence overview of this facet}
## Findings
### {Finding 1}
{Detailed explanation with code references}
```language
// file/path:line — relevant code snippet{...}
{diagram showing relationships, data flow, or structure}
### 5. Present results
After writing all files, give the user a concise summary:
- Link to `overview.exp.md`
- Top 3 most important/surprising findings
- Any open questions or recommended next steps
## Guidelines
**Go deep, not wide.** Each agent should trace code paths to their endpoints, not just grep for keywords. Read implementations, understand control flow, check edge cases.
**Every claim needs evidence.** File paths, line numbers, code snippets. No hand-waving.
**Mermaid diagrams are mandatory** for each facet doc. They should illuminate structure or flow that's hard to see from code alone.
**Quote every edge label and compile every block.** Write `A -.->|"read(2)"| B`: unquoted labels fail
the lexer when they contain `(` or `|`, and quoting always parses. Compile with
`mmdc -i block.mmd -o /tmp/block.svg`, after
`export PUPPETEER_EXECUTABLE_PATH="/Applications/Google Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/Google Chrome"` —
`mmdc` drives a headless browser and finds none by default, so without that variable it reports a
launch failure that reads like "mermaid is unavailable". A grep check cannot see a lexer error.
**Name files descriptively.** Use kebab-case names that describe the facet: `error-handling.exp.md`, `data-flow.exp.md`, `test-coverage.exp.md`, not `part-1.exp.md`.
**Date folders use today's date** in `YYYY-MM-DD` format. Each exploration gets its own topic subfolder, so multiple explorations on the same day never collide.
**Agent count:** Aim for 3-6 parallel agents. Fewer than 3 isn't deep enough. More than 6 risks shallow coverage per agent.© strands-agents, Apache-2.0. Rendered from Markdown: HTML in the file is shown as text, images as links, and headings moved down two levels. Raw file
Asvarox/allkaraoke
A skill your agent uses when executing implementation plans with independent tasks in the current session
ultralisp/ultralisp
A skill your agent uses when facing 2+ independent tasks that can be worked on without shared state or sequential dependencies
getpaseo/paseo
Launches one separate agent through Paseo to give a second opinion on the current task, with a self-contained briefing and no permission to edit files.
To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/explore, .gemini/skills/explore, .github/skills/explore and .opencode/skills/explore in your project.
SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Explore is instructions for the agent only.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Explore is published under the Apache-2.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 1.8k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 7.4k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
