What it does

Argocd Helper is an agent skill from shepherdjerred/monorepo. ArgoCD GitOps deployment management and troubleshooting When user mentions ArgoCD, GitOps, application sync, or argocd commands

Its SKILL.md is about 420 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 4 other files, including reference files (for example `references/applicationsets.md`, `references/multi-source-and-notifications.md` and `references/troubleshooting.md`).

It sits in DevOps & Cloud, covering Container orchestration and GitOps. It works with Argo CD. The repository describes itself as: Monorepo for all of my projects. The licence is GPL-3.0.

Workflow steps

6 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. resolve the exact target and revision;
  2. inspect active operations and ownership markers;
  3. understand hooks, waves, finalizers, sync options, ignored differences, and
  4. preview the diff or rendered manifests;
  5. use the repository's owning release workflow when one exists;
  6. read back operation and runtime state.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit da14ae9. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

    Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

    From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • argocd

    From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

    From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

    Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

    From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Argocd Helper loads about 419 tokens when it runs, and up to ~3.9k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 35 tokens; SKILL.md has 157 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~35
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~419
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~3.9k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Argo CD helper

Start read-only and establish the Application, destination, declared source, requested revision, project, sync policy, and resource ownership.

Useful read operations include:

bash
argocd app get <app>
argocd app diff <app>
argocd app history <app>
argocd app manifests <app> --revision <revision>
argocd app resources <app>
argocd app logs <app>

Correlate Argo CD's view with Kubernetes objects and controller events. Separate Git source, render errors, comparison, sync operation, health assessment, and application runtime behavior.

Before a sync, rollback, terminate, delete, or prune operation:

  1. resolve the exact target and revision;
  2. inspect active operations and ownership markers;
  3. understand hooks, waves, finalizers, sync options, ignored differences, and prune propagation;
  4. preview the diff or rendered manifests;
  5. use the repository's owning release workflow when one exists;
  6. read back operation and runtime state.

Never classify a resource as safe to prune from OutOfSync alone. Never terminate an operation merely because another operation wants the same revision; establish ownership.

Read applicationsets.md for generators and rollouts, multi-source-and-notifications.md for those features, and troubleshooting.md for version-aware diagnosis. Verify current flags and semantics against official Argo CD documentation.
