At a glance

Patterns for running multi-agent swarms on research, development and testing work, with four topologies and a four-phase research swarm built on claude-flow MCP tools.

  • Works in 12 steps: Information Gathering → Analysis and Validation → Knowledge Management → …
  • Splitting a research task across agents that gather information in parallel
  • SKILL.md covers Quick Start, Core Concepts, Pattern 1: Research Swarm and Pattern 2: Development Swarm, plus 3 more sections
  • Calls npx, npm and claude

What it does

The skill is a pattern guide for Claude Flow swarms, used through MCP tools or CLI commands. It explains four topologies and what each suits: mesh for research and analysis, hierarchical for structured development, star for testing and validation, and ring for staged pipelines. Agent strategies are adaptive, balanced, specialized and parallel.

The first pattern is a research swarm that moves from parallel information gathering through analysis and validation and knowledge management to report generation. It calls claude-flow MCP tools such as swarm_init, parallel_execute, pattern_recognize, memory_search and task_orchestrate, and it expects claude-flow to be installed globally with npm.

When your agent uses it

  • Splitting a research task across agents that gather information in parallel
  • Choosing a swarm topology for a development, testing or pipeline workflow
  • Producing a synthesized research report from several agents' findings

Example prompts

  • “Set up a mesh swarm of six agents to research vector database options and write a report.”
  • “Which swarm topology fits a test-and-validate workflow?”
  • “Run a research swarm on WebRTC scaling and save what it learns to memory.”

Requirements

  • claude-flow installed globally with npm

Workflow steps

12 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.

  1. Information Gathering
  2. Analysis and Validation
  3. Knowledge Management
  4. Report Generation
  5. Architecture and Design
  6. Parallel Implementation
  7. Testing and Validation
  8. Review and Deployment
  9. Test Planning
  10. Parallel Test Execution
  11. Performance and Security
  12. Monitoring and Reporting

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit a2f6c1c. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • npx
    • npm
    • claude

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

Links to these hosts (documentation or services it may open):

    • github.com

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Advanced Swarm Orchestration loads about 5.9k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 31 tokens; SKILL.md has 534 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~31
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~5.9k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

SKILL.md

Without a licence we can't republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 534 words (~5,948 tokens).

“Master advanced swarm patterns for distributed research, development, and testing workflows. This skill covers comprehensive orchestration strategies using both MCP tools and CLI commands.”
