What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 13598cc. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Fundraising loads about 2.1k tokens when it runs, and up to ~29k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 43 tokens; SKILL.md has 1,238 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~43
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~2.1k
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Startup Fundraising and Exits

Master the art of raising capital, managing investor relations, and navigating strategic acquisitions.

Help the user with startup fundraising and exits using insights from 15 guests and posts across Lenny's Podcast and Newsletter.

How to Help

  1. Assess Capital Needs - Help the user determine if they should bootstrap or raise venture capital based on their market ambition and business model complexity.
  2. Refine Narrative and Materials - Guide the user in building a compelling why now narrative, a structured pitch deck, and a targeted investor list.
  3. Execute the Raise - Provide a tactical schedule for outreach, high-density meeting blocks, and managing momentum to close the round efficiently.
  4. Optimize Investor Relations - Assist in creating systematic asks and reporting structures to extract maximum value from the existing cap table.

Core Principles

Bootstrapping as a Business Skill

Jason Fried: "The reason I think it's great for entrepreneurs to start bootstrapping is because they just have more practice making money, and they get better, and better, and better at the fundamental skill you need to have ultimately to run a successful business, which is to make money."

Mastering the ability to generate profit from day one builds fundamental business muscles that external capital can often mask. Only seek investment if your business model truly requires massive upfront capital like hardware or factories.

Lead with Immediate Impact

Uri Levine: "Most people are missing the most important slide of their presentation is the first slide. This slide is going to be presented for the longest period of time. This is the place that you're going to put your strongest point. Now the second most important slide is the last one."

Investors form opinions quickly, so you must place your most impressive data or insight on the very first slide. This captures attention immediately and sets the tone for the rest of the presentation.

Iterative Refinement through Rejection

Melanie Perkins: "But investors also gave really helpful feedback and feedback. Often in the form of rejection, they would say, "Oh, your market's not big enough," and I would say, "It's going to be huge." And I'd add a new page in my pitch deck that said how big the market I believe was, and then they'd say, "You're the same as some of other company." And I would say, "Hey, now I've got a new slide in my pitch deck that shows all the players and the huge gap in the market that we believe we're going to fill.""

Treat every investor rejection as a specific prompt to update your pitch materials. For every major critique or objection received, add a new data-driven slide to preempt that concern in future meetings.

Position for Acquisition from Strength

Julia Schottenstein: "M&A is always about creating plan Bs. And the way I would think about it is for any one company, there's only ever two to three buyers that find what you're building to be extremely strategic. And the strategy that I would do in how do you get noticed is I would figure out the area that you bring a competitive advantage. And I would inflict pain on that potential buyer."

The best exits happen when a company is built to be enduring and becomes indispensable to a small number of potential buyers. Focus on inflicting pain on acquirers by demonstrating disruptive success in their market.

Ambition Dictates Funding Path

Patrick Campbell: "The basic idea is bootstrapping is for lifestyle businesses that want to cash flow. Funding is for companies trying to create a billion dollars in annual revenue. And that answer offends everybody."

Choose between bootstrapping and venture capital based on the ultimate scale of your ambition. If your goal is a billion-dollar exit and rapid market capture, VC is the appropriate fuel; otherwise, prioritize efficiency.

Action-Oriented Storytelling

Merci Grace: "And honestly, looking at things like movies and TV shows, every pitch should start in the middle of the action, like a thriller or like a drama, like Mission Impossible movies always start with Tom cruise doing some crazy shit in the middle of the job right before the job that the actual movie is about because it gets your attention."

Bypass standard business templates and start your pitch in the middle of the action or with a unique insight. Leading with high-stakes narratives commands the room more effectively than generic market slides.

Questions to Help Users

  • "What is your current cash runway, and do you have at least eight months left before you need to close this round?"
  • "Can you identify the specific market, technological, or regulatory 'why now' that makes your product uniquely viable today?"
  • "What is the single most impressive data point or insight about your business that should go on the first slide?"
  • "Are you looking to build a high-efficiency lifestyle business or are you aiming for a billion-dollar venture-scale outcome?"
  • "Which two or three potential acquirers would find your product most strategic or disruptive to their core business?"
  • "Do you have a list of 50 to 60 targeted lead investors who have a history of investing in your specific vertical?"

Common Mistakes to Flag

  • Raising money before product-market fit - It increases burn rate and team size, which actually decreases the agility needed to iterate and find the right product direction.
  • Treating investor help as a passive resource - Investors are busy and will rarely offer help proactively; founders must send crisp, easy-to-execute requests to extract value.
  • Signaling the company is explicitly for sale - This removes leverage during acquisition talks; the most successful exits result from 'seducing' buyers with a strategic vision of what the company could become.
  • Focusing on month-over-month growth instead of velocity - For early-stage B2B fundraising, the speed at which you reach the $1M ARR milestone is a more significant signal than early percentage growth.
