resume-builderBuilds resumes as valid JSON for the open-source Reactive Resume app by interviewing you, and can track job applications through its MCP tools.
This skill guides a conversation that ends in a resume conforming to the Reactive Resume schema. The agent asks for basic details first, then collects each section you want, such as experience, education, skills and projects, with specific fields for each. Its rules forbid inventing dates, employers or achievements, so missing information becomes a question rather than a guess, and the output is validated against the schema.
Through the Reactive Resume MCP server it can also manage job applications: list and create them, import rows from a spreadsheet or CSV, move them between stages, log notes, schedule interviews, attach sent documents, and use the copilot tools to score a match, tailor a resume or draft a message. AI-written cover letters and follow-ups are meant to be reviewed before sending.
4 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit c6a7b1d. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are json).
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Reactive Resume Builder loads about 2k tokens when it runs, and up to ~38k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 180 tokens; SKILL.md has 901 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from reactive-resume/reactive-resume at commit c6a7b1d, republished under its MIT licence (© reactive-resume). 901 words, ~1,991 tokens.

This skill builds the document. Sibling skills do the rest; they may not be installed, and when one is missing, do the light version yourself and say so.
Ask for essential details first, unless the user has already provided them:
For each section the user wants to include, gather specific details. Never invent dates, company names, or achievements.
Experience: company, position, location, period (e.g., "Jan 2020 - Present"), description of responsibilities/achievements
Education: school, degree, area of study, grade (optional), location, period
Skills: name, proficiency level (Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced/Expert), keywords
Projects: name, period, website (optional), description
Other sections: languages, certifications, awards, publications, volunteer work, interests, references
Ask about preferences:
Output must conform to the Reactive Resume schema. See references/schema.md for the complete schema structure.
Key requirements:
id fields must be valid UUIDs<ul><li><p>…</p></li></ul>, never Markdown)dates ({ "start": "2020-01", "end": null, "present": true }); the legacy period and date text is rewritten from them on saveurl and label propertiesrgba(r, g, b, a) formatFor deeper content work, hand off to resume-content-guide (what to include, country norms, audits) and resume-bullet-writer (achievement bullets). If neither is installed, apply these core rules:
picture.hidden: true), date of birth, marital status, full street address and ID numbers. Other countries differ.level to 0 to hide proficiency dots.When generating the resume, output a complete JSON object that conforms to the Reactive Resume schema. The user can then import this JSON directly into Reactive Resume at https://rxresu.me. With the Reactive Resume MCP server connected, offer to create it with import_resume {data} instead, after the user approves; if the payload is too large for the client, give the JSON file.
Example minimal structure:
{
"picture": { "hidden": true, "url": "", "size": 80, "rotation": 0, "aspectRatio": 1, "borderRadius": 0, "borderColor": "rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.5)", "borderWidth": 0, "shadowColor": "rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.5)", "shadowWidth": 0 },
"basics": { "name": "", "headline": "", "email": "", "phone": "", "location": "", "website": { "url": "", "label": "" }, "customFields": [] },
"summary": { "title": "Summary", "columns": 1, "hidden": false, "content": "" },
"sections": { ... },
"customSections": [],
"metadata": { "template": "onyx", "layout": { ... }, ... }
}For the complete schema, see references/schema.md.
The Reactive Resume MCP server also manages job applications. For pipeline work (adding jobs, moving stages, follow-ups, recording the resume version sent, weekly reviews, messages), use the job-application-manager skill. If it isn't installed:
list_applications before changing existing records; create_application for a new opportunity.update_application to move a stage or link a resume; add_application_note to log activity.score_application_match, tailor_resume_for_application, draft_application_message) send the resume and posting to the user's AI provider: ask first, and review their output before the user sends anything.When information is missing, ask specific questions:
Avoid compound questions. Ask one thing at a time for clarity.

Builds resumes as valid JSON for the open-source Reactive Resume app by interviewing you, and can track job applications through its MCP tools. This skill guides a conversation that ends in a resume conforming to the Reactive Resume schema. The agent asks for basic details first, then collects each section you want, such as experience, education, skills and projects, with specific fields for each.
Reactive Resume Builder fits situations like: writing a new resume through a guided conversation; restructuring resume content to fit the Reactive Resume schema; tracking job applications and interviews from the agent.
Run `npx skills add reactive-resume/reactive-resume --skill resume-builder -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (plugins/reactive-resume/skills/resume-builder in reactive-resume/reactive-resume) into .claude/skills/resume-builder in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add reactive-resume/reactive-resume --skill resume-builder -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (plugins/reactive-resume/skills/resume-builder in reactive-resume/reactive-resume) into .agents/skills/resume-builder in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add reactive-resume/reactive-resume --skill resume-builder -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/resume-builder, .gemini/skills/resume-builder, .github/skills/resume-builder and .opencode/skills/resume-builder in your project.
SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Reactive Resume Builder is instructions for the agent only. Our summary lists: A Reactive Resume account or instance; The Reactive Resume MCP server for application tracking.
SKILL.md names 1 domain. As links in the text: rxresu.me. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

About 2k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 8k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 36k tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.
