What it does

Test First Changes is an agent skill from pdparchitect/noodle. Test-first procedure for every behaviour change in Noodle. Use before fixing a bug, changing how code behaves, or acting on a diagnosis made by reading the code; covers the failing test, the fix, the two runs to report, and the CI-safety constraints on tests.

Its SKILL.md is about 200 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Testing & QA, covering Test-driven development and Failing and flaky tests. The licence is Apache-2.0.

Workflow steps

5 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Write a test that exercises the specific code and fails because of the problem.
  2. Run it and see it fail.
  3. Make the change.
  4. Run the same test and see it pass.
  5. Report both runs.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 515f964. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Test First Changes loads about 201 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 70 tokens; SKILL.md has 93 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~70
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~201

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Behaviour changes are test-first

Do not change behaviour on the strength of reading the code.

  1. Write a test that exercises the specific code and fails because of the problem.
  2. Run it and see it fail.
  3. Make the change.
  4. Run the same test and see it pass.
  5. Report both runs.

A suspected cause that no test can reproduce is still a hypothesis; say so instead of changing code.

Tests must not depend on a harness account, a model, the network or timing, so that they also pass in CI.
