trigger-realtimeShows how to subscribe to Trigger.dev task runs from the backend and from React for progress indicators, live dashboards, AI response streams and approval waits.
Backend code creates short-lived public access tokens (read-only for specific runs) or trigger tokens for starting tasks from the frontend, and server code can trigger a task and subscribe to its run updates. In React, the @trigger.dev/react-hooks package supplies hooks to trigger a task, follow one run, or follow every run that shares a tag.
Realtime Streams cover AI or LLM output: a stream is defined in a shared file, piped from inside a task, and read in a component with a stream hook. Wait tokens support human-in-the-loop approval, where a task pauses until the frontend completes a token. A table lists run properties such as id, status (queued, executing, completed, failed or canceled), payload and output.
5 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit ed19717. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use npm, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Trigger.dev Realtime loads about 1.7k tokens when it runs, and up to ~3.3k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 55 tokens; SKILL.md has 187 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 187 words (~1,699 tokens).
“Subscribe to task runs and stream data in real-time from frontend and backend.”

Trigger.dev Realtime fits situations like: showing live progress for a long-running background task; building a dashboard of task runs grouped by tag; streaming an LLM response from a task into the UI; pausing a task until a user approves it in the frontend.
Run `npx skills add papermark/papermark --skill trigger-realtime -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/trigger-realtime in papermark/papermark) into .claude/skills/trigger-realtime in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add papermark/papermark --skill trigger-realtime -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/trigger-realtime in papermark/papermark) into .agents/skills/trigger-realtime in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add papermark/papermark --skill trigger-realtime -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/trigger-realtime, .gemini/skills/trigger-realtime, .github/skills/trigger-realtime and .opencode/skills/trigger-realtime in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Trigger.dev Realtime needs the command-line tools its instructions call (npm). Our summary lists: A Trigger.dev project using @trigger.dev/sdk; The @trigger.dev/react-hooks package for React components.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Its commands use npm, which can reach the network depending on how they are called. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Trigger.dev Realtime has a licence file (the repository's licence) that doesn't match a standard licence. Read it on GitHub before reusing the skill.
About 1.7k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 6.8k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 1.6k tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.
