gh-cliReference for the gh command line tool covering repositories, issues, pull requests, Actions, releases, gists and codespaces, with install and login steps.
This skill is a long command reference for the GitHub CLI, written against version 2.85.0. It opens with installation, signing in through gh auth login, and setting up gh as the git credential helper, then lays out the whole command tree along with global configuration and environment variables such as GH_TOKEN.
Each command family gets its own section of ready-to-run examples. The repository section alone covers create, clone, list, view, edit, delete, fork and sync, and there are separate sections for browsing and for switching accounts or refreshing tokens. By its description, the rest extends to issues, pull requests, Actions, projects, releases, gists, codespaces, organizations and extensions. It includes destructive commands such as gh repo delete, so check what the agent is about to run.
5 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit ed19717. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
ghgitaptbrewcurlwingetFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
Hosts in commands or code, which the agent is likely to contact:
cli.github.comgithub.comAlso links to:
docs.github.comFrom URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names these keys or tokens, usually read from environment variables:
GH_TOKENFrom names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
GitHub CLI Reference loads about 9.8k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 53 tokens; SKILL.md has 406 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found patterns that need a careful read before installing.

Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 406 words (~9,754 tokens).

It opens with installation, signing in through gh auth login, and setting up gh as the git credential helper, then lays out the whole command tree along with global configuration and environment variables such as GH_TOKEN.
GitHub CLI Reference fits situations like: creating, forking or syncing repositories from the terminal; opening, listing or merging pull requests without leaving the shell; setting up gh authentication and git credentials on a new machine; looking up the right gh subcommand and flags for a GitHub task.
Run `npx skills add papermark/papermark --skill gh-cli -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/gh-cli in papermark/papermark) into .claude/skills/gh-cli in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add papermark/papermark --skill gh-cli -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/gh-cli in papermark/papermark) into .agents/skills/gh-cli in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add papermark/papermark --skill gh-cli -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/gh-cli, .gemini/skills/gh-cli, .github/skills/gh-cli and .opencode/skills/gh-cli in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, GitHub CLI Reference needs the command-line tools its instructions call (gh, git, apt, brew, curl and winget) and credentials named GH_TOKEN. Our summary lists: The GitHub CLI (`gh`) installed; A GitHub account, signed in with `gh auth login` or a GH_TOKEN token.
SKILL.md names 3 domains. In commands or code: cli.github.com and github.com; the agent is likely to contact these when it follows the instructions. As links in the text: docs.github.com. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md flagged 4 warning(s): mentions a credentials file (ssh keys, cloud or package-manager tokens). Read the flagged lines before installing; the check is not a guarantee either way.
GitHub CLI Reference has a licence file (the repository's licence) that doesn't match a standard licence. Read it on GitHub before reusing the skill.
About 9.8k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 39k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
