insta-snapshotsReviews and accepts Insta snapshot changes in the Oxc repo from the command line, one reviewed snapshot at a time, instead of using the interactive UI.
After expected output changes or a snapshot test fails, the agent reruns the affected test to produce pending snapshots, lists them with cargo insta pending-snapshots and compares each old .snap file with its new .snap.new output to judge whether the change matches intended behavior. Output that looks wrong is fixed in the implementation before anything is accepted.
Acceptance uses cargo insta accept on named snapshots, never the interactive review UI or hand-edited expected files, and it is scoped to the snapshots reviewed in the task rather than the whole workspace. Afterward the agent inspects the snapshot diff, reruns the test and leaves no pending .snap.new files. Updating snapshots does not by itself mean a commit. Linter diagnostic snapshots live under crates/oxc_linter/src/snapshots, while conformance .snap.md reports have their own update mechanism and are not Insta pending snapshots.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 4a28c91. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

Insta Snapshot Review loads about 356 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 32 tokens; SKILL.md has 165 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from oxc-project/oxc at commit 4a28c91, republished under its MIT licence (© oxc-project). 165 words, ~356 tokens.
.claude/skills/insta-snapshots/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder).Run the affected test to generate pending snapshots. Use cargo insta pending-snapshots and read the old .snap and new .snap.new outputs to decide whether each change matches the intended behavior.
Use the CLI instead of the interactive cargo insta review UI or manually editing expected output:
cargo insta pending-snapshots
cargo insta accept --snapshot <snapshot_name>Scope acceptance to the reviewed snapshots from this task; check cargo insta accept --help if a name or package filter is ambiguous. Avoid workspace-wide acceptance or rejection when unrelated pending snapshots exist. Fix unexpected output in the implementation before accepting it.
After accepting, inspect the snapshot diff and rerun the affected test. Finish with the intended .snap updates and no task-generated .snap.new files left pending. Updating snapshots does not itself call for a commit.
Snapshots record expected output, including successful output in some crates. Linter diagnostic snapshots are under crates/oxc_linter/src/snapshots/; other crates have their own locations. Conformance .snap.md reports use a separate update mechanism; inspect the producing test harness rather than treating them as Insta pending snapshots.

Insta Snapshot Review fits situations like: A snapshot test fails after an intentional change to output; reviewing pending Insta snapshots before accepting them; updating only the snapshots related to your task in a large workspace.
Run `npx skills add oxc-project/oxc --skill insta-snapshots -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/insta-snapshots in oxc-project/oxc) into .claude/skills/insta-snapshots in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add oxc-project/oxc --skill insta-snapshots -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/insta-snapshots in oxc-project/oxc) into .agents/skills/insta-snapshots in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add oxc-project/oxc --skill insta-snapshots -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/insta-snapshots, .gemini/skills/insta-snapshots, .github/skills/insta-snapshots and .opencode/skills/insta-snapshots in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Insta Snapshot Review needs the command-line tools its instructions call (cargo). Our summary lists: A Rust toolchain with cargo-insta installed; The Oxc repository.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Insta Snapshot Review is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 356 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 1.4k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
