At a glance

What it does

Preference Audit is an agent skill from Owl-Listener/inclusive-design-skills. Audit an existing interface for respect of user preferences including motion, contrast, colour scheme, and text scaling. Chains: user-preference-respect, responsive-accessibility, colour-independence. Use when reviewing an existing product for adaptive behaviour.

Its SKILL.md is about 670 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Frontend & Design, covering Accessibility. The repository describes itself as: Inclusive design skills for AI coding agents — from cognitive accessibility to adaptive interfaces, inclusive research, and accessibility decision-making. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • Reviewing an existing product for adaptive behaviour
  • Tasks that involve Accessibility

Example prompts

  • “/preference-audit”

Workflow steps

5 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.

  1. Test Motion Preferences
  2. Test Contrast and Colour Preferences
  3. Test Colour Scheme
  4. Test Text Scaling and Zoom
  5. Test Combinations

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 6e0740f. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Preference Audit loads about 671 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 70 tokens; SKILL.md has 301 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~70
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~671

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

description
Audit an existing interface for respect of user preferences including motion, contrast, colour scheme, and text scaling. Chains: user-preference-respect, responsive-accessibility, colour-independence. Use when reviewing an existing product for adaptive behaviour.

User Preference Audit

Test whether an existing interface correctly detects and responds to user preferences — the accessibility settings people have deliberately chosen.

Process

Step 1: Test Motion Preferences

Using user-preference-respect, enable prefers-reduced-motion and navigate the entire interface. Document:

  • Animations that continue playing
  • Transitions that still slide or fade
  • Parallax effects that remain active
  • Autoplay video or carousels that don't stop
  • Any motion that serves no functional purpose
Step 2: Test Contrast and Colour Preferences

Enable prefers-contrast (more) and forced-colors mode. Using user-preference-respect and colour-independence, document:

  • Elements that become invisible or indistinguishable
  • Focus indicators that disappear
  • Interactive elements that lose their borders
  • Colour-only status indicators that become meaningless
  • Charts or visualisations that become unreadable
Step 3: Test Colour Scheme

Switch between light and dark modes. Document:

  • Content that becomes illegible in one mode
  • Images or icons that don't adapt
  • Hardcoded colours that clash with the theme
  • Contrast failures specific to one mode
Step 4: Test Text Scaling and Zoom

Using responsive-accessibility, test at 200% browser zoom and with system font size at maximum. Document:

  • Text that overflows or gets clipped
  • Layouts that break or overlap
  • Horizontal scrolling that appears
  • Fixed-height containers that truncate content
  • Interactive elements that become unreachable
Step 5: Test Combinations

Test realistic combinations:

  • Dark mode + high contrast + reduced motion
  • 200% zoom + large system font
  • Forced colours + reduced motion

Document any failures that only appear in combination.

Output

Deliver an audit report:

  1. Summary — which preferences are respected, which are ignored
  2. Preference-by-preference findings — specific failures for each
  3. Combination failures — issues that appear only when multiple preferences are active
  4. Fix list — prioritised by severity and number of users affected

Severity definitions:

  • Critical — preference is completely ignored, causing harm or blocking access
  • Major — preference is partially respected, significant gaps remain
  • Minor — preference is mostly respected, edge cases need fixing
