What it does

Clean is an agent skill from OutThisLife/brooklyn-skills. Polish your own diff by hand with KISS/DRY and local style — the pre-handoff pass, not a test run and not a subagent sweep. Use for /clean, "clean it up", "tidy this", and automatically before creating, updating, or automerging a PR or moving to the next one.

Its SKILL.md is about 390 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Agent Workflows, covering Subagents. The repository describes itself as: Skills that drive best-in-class engineering. The licence is MIT.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 8a97904. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Clean loads about 392 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 66 tokens; SKILL.md has 200 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Clean

KISS/DRY and copy the local code style. Be elitist, shorthand, clever, concise, efficient, and elegant.

"Clean" means polishing the code — it does NOT mean running the test suite, tsc, or lint as the task. Run a check only if it's genuinely needed to confirm the polish is safe.

Clean is a standalone pass, not just a pre-PR step — run it whenever things get messy, including mid-work. Also run it automatically before any PR handoff (creating, updating, automerging, or moving to the next PR) without being told each time.

Do

  1. Re-read your diff. Cut dead code, leftover debug logging, and duplication.
  2. Extend existing helpers — don't parallel-implement.
  3. Match neighboring style (names, imports, file layout, comment density).
  4. Prefer the small sharp version over ceremony.
  5. UI work: only after they like the UI (ui-only). Use ui-system for primitives.
  6. On the PR: title/body describe the change as a whole (a short intro), not a changelog of steps. Split into topical commits (pr-update), run no-tropes on the text, and link the PR.

Don't

  • Run the test suite / tsc / lint just because you were told to "clean"
  • Unrelated refactors
  • New abstractions with one caller
  • Scope creep dressed up as cleanup

Questions about Clean

What does Clean do?

Polish your own diff by hand with KISS/DRY and local style — the pre-handoff pass, not a test run and not a subagent sweep. Clean is an agent skill from OutThisLife/brooklyn-skills. Polish your own diff by hand with KISS/DRY and local style — the pre-handoff pass, not a test run and not a subagent sweep.

When should I use Clean?

Clean fits situations like: automatically before creating; automerging a PR; moving to the next one.

How do I install Clean in Claude Code?

Run `npx skills add OutThisLife/brooklyn-skills --skill clean -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/clean in OutThisLife/brooklyn-skills) into .claude/skills/clean in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

How do I install Clean in Codex?

Run `npx skills add OutThisLife/brooklyn-skills --skill clean -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/clean in OutThisLife/brooklyn-skills) into .agents/skills/clean in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.

Can I use Clean in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add OutThisLife/brooklyn-skills --skill clean -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/clean, .gemini/skills/clean, .github/skills/clean and .opencode/skills/clean in your project.

What does Clean need to run?

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Clean is instructions for the agent only.

Does Clean access the network?

SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.

Is Clean safe to install?

Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

What licence does Clean use?

Clean is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.

How many tokens does Clean use?

About 392 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 1.6k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.

What are the alternatives to Clean?

Skills that share tags, products or a category with Clean: Claude Code Agent Development (anthropics/claude-plugins-official, 38k stars), Subagent Driven Development (Asvarox/allkaraoke, 261 stars), Dispatching Parallel Agents (ultralisp/ultralisp, 258 stars) and Paseo Advisor Second Opinion (getpaseo/paseo, 20k stars). The comparison table on this page puts their stars, adoption, token cost, safety result and licence side by side.

Who maintains Clean?

OutThisLife (a GitHub user) maintains it in OutThisLife/brooklyn-skills, which has 199 GitHub stars. The repository holds 22 skills in this directory. The repository was last updated on October 5, 2026.
