  • Instructions only: no scripts, shell commands, URLs or credentials in SKILL.md

What it does

Similarity is an agent skill from nwiizo/cargo-coupling. Inspect Rust duplicate-code candidates with similarity-rs. Use to assess whether similar code shares a responsibility before extracting an abstraction.

Its SKILL.md is about 490 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts. Compatibility notes: Requires similarity-rs and rtk; coupling verification uses Rust/Cargo from this checkout.

It works with Rust. The repository describes itself as: A coupling analysis tool for Rust projects - measuring the 'right distance' in your code. The licence is MIT.

Requirements

  • Compatibility (from SKILL.md): Requires similarity-rs and rtk; coupling verification uses Rust/Cargo from this checkout.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 8ef1441. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are bash).

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

  • Compatibility

Requires similarity-rs and rtk; coupling verification uses Rust/Cargo from this checkout.

From compatibility in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

Context cost

Similarity loads about 492 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 41 tokens; SKILL.md has 213 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~41
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~492

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Rust Code Similarity

Scan the requested scope (default ./src) with similarity-rs. Start with one scan and inspect the reported code; thresholds rank candidates, not required actions:

bash
rtk proxy similarity-rs ./src --skip-test --threshold 0.90 --min-lines 10

Honor requested options. Use --print for source detail or --experimental-types when comparing types is relevant. Consult similarity-rs --help for other options; do not run several threshold sweeps without an unresolved question.

Record the analyzed scope, tool options, and candidate locations. Check callers, semantics, and intentional differences. Recommend shared code only when the same rule should change together and sharing it reduces maintenance cost. Similar AST traversal, translations, or collection pipelines can serve different rules; do not merge them based on syntax alone. Explain why consequential candidates are selected or retained. A high similarity percentage does not justify generics, traits, or extraction.

When assessing a structural change, use cargo-coupling on the relevant scope to check its effect on boundaries. Launch visualization only when requested or needed to answer the task. Report locations, the shared responsibility (if any), and the recommendation, including cases where duplication should remain. Implement fixes when requested, preserve affected behavior with existing or focused regression tests, and rerun similarity and coupling with the same scope and settings. Report which candidates were resolved and which remain; a lower duplicate count is supporting evidence, not the goal.

Questions about Similarity

What does Similarity do?

Inspect Rust duplicate-code candidates with similarity-rs. An agent skill from nwiizo/cargo-coupling. Similarity is an agent skill from nwiizo/cargo-coupling. Inspect Rust duplicate-code candidates with similarity-rs.

When should I use Similarity?

Similarity fits situations like: assess whether similar code shares a responsibility before extracting an abstraction.

How do I install Similarity in Claude Code?

Run `npx skills add nwiizo/cargo-coupling --skill similarity -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/similarity in nwiizo/cargo-coupling) into .claude/skills/similarity in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

How do I install Similarity in Codex?

Run `npx skills add nwiizo/cargo-coupling --skill similarity -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/similarity in nwiizo/cargo-coupling) into .agents/skills/similarity in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.

Can I use Similarity in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add nwiizo/cargo-coupling --skill similarity -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/similarity, .gemini/skills/similarity, .github/skills/similarity and .opencode/skills/similarity in your project.

What does Similarity need to run?

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Similarity is instructions for the agent only. Compatibility (from SKILL.md): Requires similarity-rs and rtk; coupling verification uses Rust/Cargo from this checkout..

Does Similarity access the network?

SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.

Is Similarity safe to install?

Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

What licence does Similarity use?

Similarity is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.

How many tokens does Similarity use?

About 492 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 2k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.

What are the alternatives to Similarity?

Skills that share tags, products or a category with Similarity: Update V8 Version (openinterpreter/openinterpreter, 69k stars), Firecrawl Page Scrape Integration (firecrawl/firecrawl, 190k stars), Migrate Core Code to Submodules (tinyhumansai/openhuman, 42k stars) and Rust TDD Workflow (rtk-ai/rtk, 83k stars). The comparison table on this page puts their stars, adoption, token cost, safety result and licence side by side.

Who maintains Similarity?
