What it does

Check Balance is an agent skill from nwiizo/cargo-coupling. Check a Rust project's cargo-coupling health grade or run a requested CI gate. Use for quick summaries, grade thresholds, or baseline ratchets.

Its SKILL.md is about 320 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It works with Rust. The repository describes itself as: A coupling analysis tool for Rust projects - measuring the 'right distance' in your code. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • Quick summaries
  • Grade thresholds
  • Baseline ratchets

Example prompts

  • “/check-balance”

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 8ef1441. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are bash).

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Check Balance loads about 323 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 39 tokens; SKILL.md has 125 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~39
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~323

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Check Balance

For a quick check, run from this repository with the requested path (default ./src) and report the grade, its rationale, and material analysis limits:

bash
rtk proxy cargo run -- coupling --summary ./src

For a gate, use the user's threshold or baseline. Examples:

bash
rtk proxy cargo run -- coupling --check --min-grade=C ./src
rtk proxy cargo run -- coupling --check --baseline main --fail-on=high ./src

Capture the exit status and explain why the gate passed or failed. Baseline mode fails only on new issues at the selected severity or above; its default is High. Do not infer a grade from the average balance score: the current implementation uses issue density and data sufficiency. S is an over-optimization warning.

Inspect grade.rs or gate handling only when the result needs explanation. A low grade alone does not require a full review or code changes. If the user asks for diagnosis, follow analyze for the relevant findings.
