What it does

Screenshot is an agent skill from n0an/VivaDicta. Capture screenshots from iOS Simulator using native xcrun simctl command for documentation, debugging, and visual verification. Optionally analyze the screenshot.

Its SKILL.md is about 660 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 4 other files, including reference files (for example `agents/openai.yaml` and `references/advanced.md`).

It sits in Mobile. It works with iOS. The repository describes itself as: iOS & watchOS speech-to-text app with AI voice keyboard, on-device RAG, and chat with your notes - powered by Apple Foundation Models, WhisperKit, NVIDIA Parakeet, and 20+ AI…. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

Workflow steps

4 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Create screenshots directory if needed
  2. Capture the screenshot
  3. Handle the optional argument
  4. Report results: Always mention the saved screenshot path. If analyzed, provide findings.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit b141304. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • xcrun

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Screenshot loads about 657 tokens when it runs, and up to ~1.2k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 43 tokens; SKILL.md has 243 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~43
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~657
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~1.2k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

You are given the following context: $ARGUMENTS

Task

Capture a screenshot of the iOS Simulator using xcrun simctl and optionally analyze it based on user instructions.

Instructions

  1. Create screenshots directory if needed:

    bash
    mkdir -p llmtemp/screenshots
  2. Capture the screenshot:

    bash
    TIMESTAMP=$(date +%Y%m%d_%H%M%S)
xcrun simctl io booted screenshot llmtemp/screenshots/screenshot_${TIMESTAMP}.png
  3. Handle the optional argument:

    • If $ARGUMENTS is empty or not provided: Capture and save, then report the saved path
    • If $ARGUMENTS is provided: After saving, read the screenshot and follow the requested instruction

    Common argument patterns:

    • "take a look" / "analyze" / "what's on screen" - Read and describe what's visible
    • "check for [element]" - Look for specific UI elements
    • "is there [something]" - Verify presence of specific content
    • "extract text" - Extract and list all visible text
    • Any other instruction - Follow it after reading the screenshot
  4. Report results: Always mention the saved screenshot path. If analyzed, provide findings.

Example Usage

bash
screenshot # Simple capture
screenshot take a look # Capture and analyze
screenshot is there a login button? # Check for specific element
screenshot extract all visible text # Extract text

Advanced Options

For advanced use cases, load references/advanced.md.

  • Specific simulator: Use UDID instead of booted when multiple simulators are running
  • Image format: --type=png (default), --type=tiff
  • Specific display: --display=1 (main), --display=2 (secondary, e.g. Apple Watch)
  • Mask sensitive data: --mask=black (iOS 15+)

Troubleshooting

  • "No such device: booted": No simulator running. Check with xcrun simctl list devices | grep Booted
  • Blank/black screenshot: Wait for content to load, ensure simulator is not minimized
  • Wrong simulator captured: Use specific UDID instead of booted

Technical Notes

  • Screenshots saved to llmtemp/screenshots (gitignored)
  • Filenames include timestamps to prevent overwrites
  • Native xcrun simctl command - no external dependencies, only Xcode
  • Captures clean framebuffer without simulator bezel
  • PNG format (lossless)
