At a glance

Enforces a strict next-implement-check-done cycle through the agent-foreman CLI so an agent works one backlog task at a time, with optional TDD gating.

  • Works in 3 steps: needs_review → may be broken → failing → not implemented → Lower priority number → higher priority…
  • Picking the next task to work on from a backlog
  • SKILL.md covers ⚠️ STRICT WORKFLOW - NO…, ⛔ CLI-ONLY ENFORCEMENT, Quick Start and Workflow, plus 4 more sections
  • Instructions only: no scripts, shell commands, URLs or credentials in SKILL.md

What it does

The workflow has exactly four steps, next, implement, check and done, and the skill is explicit that these may not be skipped, reordered or supplemented with invented extra steps; the check command is required before done, and task files are read only for acceptance criteria after next has already selected the task, never to pick a task, check status or change it directly, since all of that goes through the CLI's own commands. The next command can auto-select the next priority task or take a specific task id, and its output is checked for a TDD-enforcement banner before anything is implemented; in strict TDD mode, code must not be written before tests exist.

Tasks are picked by priority: items needing review come first since they may be broken, then failing tasks that are not yet implemented, then lower numeric priority values rank higher. A separate breakdown-validate-implement cycle runs a validate command once every breakdown task is complete, before any of those pieces are implemented, and done is always run after finishing a task, including a breakdown task. Flags extend the base commands: checking tests before showing a task, a dry-run preview, JSON output for scripting, quiet output, allowing a dirty working tree, and forcing TDD guidance to regenerate.

When your agent uses it

  • Picking the next task to work on from a backlog
  • Working through one feature end to end with a check step before marking it done
  • Following a TDD red-green cycle enforced by the CLI
  • Validating a set of breakdown tasks before implementing them

Example prompts

  • “Run agent-foreman next and start on whatever it gives me.”
  • “What should I work on next from the backlog?”
  • “Check this task's implementation and mark it done if it passes.”

Requirements

  • The agent-foreman CLI installed in the project
  • Pre-approved tools (allowed-tools): Bash, Read, Glob, Grep, Write, Edit

Workflow steps

3 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. needs_review → may be broken
  2. failing → not implemented
  3. Lower priority number → higher priority (0 is highest)

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 2763f83. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves these tools, so the agent can use them without asking each time:

    • Bash
    • Read
    • Glob
    • Grep
    • Write
    • Edit

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are bash).

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Feature Next Task Workflow loads about 927 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 92 tokens; SKILL.md has 218 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~92
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~927

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check: notes

The automated check noted patterns worth knowing about, such as sudo or a known installer.

  • NotePre-approves every shell command (allowed-tools: Bash)SKILL.md
allowed-tools: Bash, Read, Glob, Grep, Write, Edit

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

What does Feature Next Task Workflow need to run?

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Feature Next Task Workflow is instructions for the agent only. Our summary lists: The agent-foreman CLI installed in the project. Its frontmatter pre-approves these tools: Bash, Read, Glob, Grep, Write, Edit.

Does Feature Next Task Workflow access the network?

SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.

Is Feature Next Task Workflow safe to install?

Our automated static check of SKILL.md found notes only (pre-approves every shell command (allowed-tools: bash)), nothing it rates as a warning. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

What licence does Feature Next Task Workflow use?

No licence was found for Feature Next Task Workflow or its repository. Without one, default copyright applies: ask the author before reusing or redistributing it.

How many tokens does Feature Next Task Workflow use?
