bailian-web-searchDecides whether a web search in Alibaba Cloud Bailian (Model Studio) workflows uses the model's built-in search or the Bailian MCP, based on the connection type.
This skill owns one decision: which path a web search takes inside agent-driven bl (Model Studio CLI) workflows. The agent first runs bl config show --output json and treats the connection as Token Plan when the active profile is named token-plan or when the base_url host is a token-plan host under maas.aliyuncs.com, which also catches profiles with custom names.
Token Plan connections go to the model's built-in search, because their keys cannot authorize Bailian MCP search. Even if you ask for bl search web, the agent explains that and uses the built-in path, or asks once about switching profile or key. Every other connection defaults to the MCP path and falls back to built-in search exactly once, only for listed failure types. Before anything runs, the agent must read the shared bailian-protocol skill for consent, version checks and auth. Exact flags are left to the bailian-cli skill or the help output.
2 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 8bbbbc7. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are bash).
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
Hosts in commands or code, which the agent is likely to contact:
token-plan.cn-beijing.maas.aliyuncs.comFrom URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Bailian Web Search Routing loads about 1.8k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 146 tokens; SKILL.md has 747 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from modelstudioai/cli at commit 8bbbbc7, republished under its Apache-2.0 licence (© modelstudioai). 747 words, ~1,762 tokens.
.claude/skills/bailian-web-search/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder).bailian-web-search)CRITICAL — Before executing, MUST read the shared protocol in ../bailian-protocol/SKILL.md: Provider selection and consent, Version & updates (pre-flight checklist), Setup & auth, and CLI errors: report an issue. If that protocol file is missing, stop and run bl skill init; do not guess auth/consent.

Token Plan keys do not authorize Bailian MCP search — never route them to bl search web.
Run (no auth needed):
bl config show --output jsonTreat the connection as Token Plan when either condition holds — this mirrors the CLI's own endpoint detection (usesTokenPlanEndpoint), so routing stays consistent with command behavior:
config (active profile name) is token-plan, orbase_url matches token-plan.<region>.maas.aliyuncs.com (e.g. https://token-plan.cn-beijing.maas.aliyuncs.com).Do not rely on the profile name alone: users can create additional Token Plan profiles under custom names, and only the Base URL host check catches those. Anything else → default identity.
| Condition | Route | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Token Plan model identity | Model-native path | Preferred — the only path Token Plan keys authorize |
| Any other model / default | MCP path | Default for regular DashScope API keys |
| MCP path (eligible fail) | Model-native path, exactly once | Fallback — only for the failure classes below |
User override: if the user names a specific path or command, follow it except under Token Plan identity: do not call bl search web even if the user asks for MCP — explain that Token Plan keys cannot authorize Bailian MCP search, then use the model-native path (or ask once whether to switch profile / key).
bl text chat --api responses --tool '{"type":"web_search"}' --message "搜索近期的阿里云新闻"{"type":"web_search"}.--model: omit it so the CLI uses default_text_model / built-in default; only pass --model when the user named one.--message in the user's language; the reply language follows the prompt (see bailian-protocol → Respond in the user's language).bailian-cli if installed, else bl text chat --help.bl search web --query "阿里云百炼最新功能"bailian-cli if installed, else bl search web --help.Do not fall back on every non-zero exit. Fall back only when bl search web fails for one of these classes (match stderr / message):

Decides whether a web search in Alibaba Cloud Bailian (Model Studio) workflows uses the model's built-in search or the Bailian MCP, based on the connection type. This skill owns one decision: which path a web search takes inside agent-driven bl (Model Studio CLI) workflows.com, which also catches profiles with custom names.
Bailian Web Search Routing fits situations like: running a web search or looking up recent news from a Bailian CLI workflow; debugging a Token Plan web search that fails or mixes up authentication; choosing between the model's built-in search and Bailian MCP search.
Run `npx skills add modelstudioai/cli --skill bailian-web-search -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/bailian-web-search in modelstudioai/cli) into .claude/skills/bailian-web-search in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add modelstudioai/cli --skill bailian-web-search -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Bailian Web Search Routing is instructions for the agent only. Our summary lists: The Model Studio CLI (`bl`) with a configured profile; The shared bailian-protocol skill, installed with `bl skill init`; A Bailian or DashScope API key.
SKILL.md names 1 domain. In commands or code: token-plan.cn-beijing.maas.aliyuncs.com; the agent is likely to contact it when it follows the instructions. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Bailian Web Search Routing is published under the Apache-2.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 1.8k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 7k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
