vibe-cross-platformCoding and testing rules for Mistral Vibe so code works on Linux, macOS and Windows even though CI runs the test suite on Linux only.
Because the machine a contributor develops on is not the one that gates the pull request, the rules require code to be correct on every platform and provably so on those CI cannot run. Code must not rely on host behavior such as shell, path separator, line endings or case sensitivity. Platform branches go through the helpers in vibe.core.utils.platform, such as is_windows and resolve_windows_shell, rather than ad hoc sys.platform checks, and paths are built with pathlib.Path.
Terminal and PTY data are treated as arbitrarily chunked streams: normalize CRLF before reading a lone carriage return as a redraw, buffer incomplete control sequences, and add regression tests that run on Linux and cover every split boundary. Tests for other platforms run on Linux by monkeypatching sys.platform, environment variables and probes like shutil.which instead of skipping them, and platform-dependent assertions must force the platform explicitly.

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

Vibe Cross-Platform Rules loads about 551 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 55 tokens; SKILL.md has 241 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

$SHELL, case sensitivity). Assume the same code runs under cmd.exe, Git Bash, zsh, and sh.vibe.core.utils.platform (is_windows(), resolve_windows_shell()), not ad-hoc sys.platform checks. Keep POSIX-only assumptions (forward slashes, POSIX shlex escaping, $SHELL) out of shared paths and scope Windows-only handling to is_windows().pathlib.Path for path composition; never hardcode / or \\.\r as an in-place redraw, buffer incomplete control sequences until their terminator arrives, and add Linux-runnable regression tests covering CRLF plus every split boundary of representative control sequences.sys.platform, env vars, and probes like shutil.which — do not @pytest.mark.skipif them away. A Windows-only behavior with no Linux-runnable test is untested in CI.monkeypatch.setattr(module, "is_windows", lambda: True)) instead of letting the test pass only because of the host it happened to run on. SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Vibe Cross-Platform Rules is instructions for the agent only. Our summary lists: The Mistral Vibe repository and its platform helpers.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Vibe Cross-Platform Rules is published under the Apache-2.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 551 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 2.2k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
