At a glance

Runs a quick semantic search over Mem0 memories and shows compact one-line results, or looks up a single memory by its ID.

  • Works in 3 steps: Parse query → Search → Display
  • Checking whether something was already recorded in memory
  • Instructions only: no scripts, shell commands, URLs or credentials in SKILL.md
  • Resolving a Mem0 citation to the memory it points at

What it does

You supply a query through /mem0-search, and the agent asks for one if none is given. When the query looks like a long hex or UUID-style ID, the skill treats it as a direct memory lookup rather than a search. Otherwise it calls the mem0_memory tool with the search action.

Results come back as numbered one-liners showing the category, up to 80 characters of content, the date and a short Mem0 ID, under a header with the query and the result count. With no matches, it reports that no memories match. The skill is described as lighter than /mem0-tour, which makes it suited to quick lookups, checking whether something was recorded, and resolving memory citations.

When your agent uses it

  • Checking whether something was already recorded in memory
  • Resolving a Mem0 citation to the memory it points at
  • Browsing memories without full category detail

Example prompts

  • “Search my memories for favorite restaurants.”
  • “Did we record anything about the deployment checklist? Run a quick search.”
  • “Look up memory a3f8b2c1 and show me what it says.”

Requirements

  • A Mem0 setup whose mem0_memory tool supports searching

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit b7ad69a. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Mem0 Memory Search loads about 302 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 62 tokens; SKILL.md has 84 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~62
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~302

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

description
Searches memories and displays compact one-liner results, or looks up a specific memory by ID. Use for quick memory lookups, checking if something was recorded, resolving [mem0:id] citations, or browsing memories without full category detail.

Search / Peek

Quick semantic search with compact output. Lighter than /mem0-tour.

Execution

Step 1: Parse query

The user provides a search query: /mem0-search favorite restaurants

If no query provided, ask: "What should I search for?"

Memory ID detection: If the query matches a UUID pattern (^[a-f0-9-]{20,}$), treat it as a direct memory lookup instead of a search.

Use mem0_memory tool with action="search", query=<user's query>.

Step 3: Display

Show compact results:

## mem0 search: "<query>" (<N> results)

1. [preferences] Prefers window seats on flights (2026-05-15) [mem0:a3f8b2c1]
2. [goals] Wants to visit Japan in 2027 (2026-05-10) [mem0:7e2d9f4a]
3. [identity] Lives in San Francisco (2026-05-08) [mem0:c4d5e6f7]

Format: <number>. [<category>] <content, 80 chars> (<date>) [mem0:<short_id>]

If no results:

No memories matching "<query>".

How do I install Mem0 Memory Search in Claude Code?

Run `npx skills add mem0ai/mem0 --skill search -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (integrations/pi-agent-plugin/skills/search in mem0ai/mem0) into .claude/skills/search in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

How do I install Mem0 Memory Search in Codex?

Run `npx skills add mem0ai/mem0 --skill search -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (integrations/pi-agent-plugin/skills/search in mem0ai/mem0) into .agents/skills/search in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.

Can I use Mem0 Memory Search in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add mem0ai/mem0 --skill search -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/search, .gemini/skills/search, .github/skills/search and .opencode/skills/search in your project.

What does Mem0 Memory Search need to run?

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Mem0 Memory Search is instructions for the agent only. Our summary lists: A Mem0 setup whose mem0_memory tool supports searching.

Does Mem0 Memory Search access the network?

SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.

Is Mem0 Memory Search safe to install?

Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

What licence does Mem0 Memory Search use?

Mem0 Memory Search is published under the Apache-2.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.

How many tokens does Mem0 Memory Search use?

About 302 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 1.2k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.

What are the alternatives to Mem0 Memory Search?

Skills that share tags, products or a category with Mem0 Memory Search: Agenticx Memory Architect (DemonDamon/AgenticX, 315 stars), Hyperspacedb Memory (YARlabs/hyperspace-db, 162 stars), Self Improving Systems (ooiyeefei/ccc, 494 stars) and Mem0 (Anil-matcha/awesome-muse-connectors, 1.3k stars). The comparison table on this page puts their stars, adoption, token cost, safety result and licence side by side.
