What it does

Write Pipeline is an agent skill from marin-community/marin. Design or revise a Marin experiment pipeline that binds reusable work into an artifact graph. Use for new workflow entrypoints, stage wiring, and pipeline placement decisions; use a narrower domain skill when it owns the launch.

Its SKILL.md is about 540 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 3 other files, including reference files (for example `references/artifact-binding.md` and `references/layout.md`).

The repository describes itself as: Open-source framework for the research and development of foundation models. The licence is Apache-2.0.

When your agent uses it

  • New workflow entrypoints
  • Pipeline placement decisions
  • Use a narrower domain skill when it owns the launch

Example prompts

  • “/write-pipeline”

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 61bb85c. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Write Pipeline loads about 540 tokens when it runs, and up to ~1.6k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 61 tokens; SKILL.md has 255 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~61
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~540
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~1.6k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Write a Marin pipeline

Keep the boundary between work and workflow explicit:

  • lib/** owns concrete implementations intended for reuse: functions, configurations, and produced data types. New library code must not compose a pipeline, construct an ArtifactStep or StepSpec, or reference a particular artifact handle, name, version, or output. The execution framework's Artifact and ArtifactStep definitions are infrastructure, not a model for new library workflow builders.
  • experiments/** owns artifact graph construction and one-off binding code: choosing inputs, names, versions, dependencies, resources, and which reusable functions to run. Keep a transformation here only when it is specific to that experiment. Move work intended for reuse into a concrete lib/** implementation, then bind it in experiments/**.
  • Put experiment-specific tests beside their experiment, including tests of its graph and one-off transformations; do not put them in root tests/** or lib/**. Keep tests of reusable library behavior in the library's normal test location. Follow root TESTING.md and the relevant module instructions.

Inspect nearby current pipelines before editing. Read layout and examples for placement decisions and artifact binding when working with ArtifactStep, apply, paths, or caching. Existing library builders that return steps are exceptions, not precedent for adding more pipeline composition to lib/**.

For a change, verify that the experiment builds the intended dependencies and that reusable work can run without importing experiments/**. Dry-run the graph where the entrypoint supports it; run focused behavior tests without submitting a live job unless requested. Update user-facing docs when the workflow or API changes. Use the commit skill if asked to publish the result.
