triage-canaryTriage a failed canary ferry run only when invoked by CI with the required CANARY context.
Triage Canary is an agent skill from marin-community/marin. Triage a failed canary ferry run only when invoked by CI with the required CANARY context.
Its SKILL.md is about 750 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.
It sits in DevOps & Cloud, covering Deployment. It works with Kubernetes. The repository describes itself as: Open-source framework for the research and development of foundation models. The licence is Apache-2.0.
4 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit c468793. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
kubectlFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use kubectl, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Triage Canary loads about 751 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 26 tokens; SKILL.md has 389 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

The Loom launch includes these non-secret values in its goal. Use those values directly instead of inspecting the process environment.
| Variable | Description |
|---|---|
CANARY_LANE | gpu (CoreWeave) or tpu (GCP) |
CANARY_JOB_ID | Iris job ID |
CANARY_RUN_ID | W&B run ID |
IRIS_CONFIG | Path to Iris cluster config |
IRIS_NAMESPACE | Kubernetes namespace (CW only) |
WANDB_ENTITY | W&B entity |
WANDB_PROJECT | W&B project |
GHA_RUN_URL | Full URL to the GitHub Actions run |
The Actions runner may have exited. Start with the diagnostics artifact linked
from GHA_RUN_URL and durable Iris and Finelog logs. Use live cluster commands
only when the relevant cluster is still running.
iris --config=$IRIS_CONFIG job list when accessible.~/.kube/coreweave-iris, namespace $IRIS_NAMESPACE (defaults to iris-ci — the canary shares this namespace with PR CI).
Get pod status, controller logs, task pod logs, warning events, pod describe.
Filter by iris.job_id=<CANARY_JOB_ID with '/' replaced by '.'> so you only see this canary's pods, not co-tenant CI pods. Example: kubectl -n iris-ci get pods -l iris.job_id=runner.iris-run-job-abc123.iris process logs and iris job list.scripts/ci/validate_canary_metrics.py if you need the validation output.Classify into one of: infra/scheduling, training crash, metric regression, controller bug, data/storage.
Use hypothesis-driven diagnosis: state hypothesis, gather evidence, narrow. Attempt to reproduce the issue locally and minimally. Triple check that you're narrowing down on the same issue as the one that actually broke the canary.
Follow the file-issue skill. Use the bug-report template.
[canary-{lane}] {short failure description}bug, agent-generated, canary--body-file with a temp file (see file-issue skill for the pattern).Append a typed result in the Loom channel with the issue URL, diagnosis, and
GHA_RUN_URL. If root cause is unclear, state that and the best available signal.

Triage Canary fits situations like: tasks that involve Deployment.
Run `npx skills add marin-community/marin --skill triage-canary -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/triage-canary in marin-community/marin) into .claude/skills/triage-canary in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add marin-community/marin --skill triage-canary -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/triage-canary in marin-community/marin) into .agents/skills/triage-canary in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add marin-community/marin --skill triage-canary -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/triage-canary, .gemini/skills/triage-canary, .github/skills/triage-canary and .opencode/skills/triage-canary in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Triage Canary needs the command-line tools its instructions call (kubectl).
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Triage Canary is published under the Apache-2.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 751 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 3k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
Skills that share tags, products or a category with Triage Canary: Kubeshark Installer (kubeshark/kubeshark, 12k stars), Mirrord Operator (metalbear-co/mirrord, 5.4k stars), KubeSphere ServiceMesh Manager (kubesphere/kubesphere, 17k stars) and Senior DevOps Toolkit (maslennikov-ig/claude-code-orchestrator-kit, 260 stars). The comparison table on this page puts their stars, adoption, token cost, safety result and licence side by side.
