sdd-reviewSDD phase-gate review — enforces the SDD pipeline's gated structure by reviewing specification artifacts before the next phase can proceed.
Sdd Review is an agent skill from magnus919/hermes-profiles. SDD phase-gate review — enforces the SDD pipeline's gated structure by reviewing specification artifacts before the next phase can proceed. Produces artifact-pyramid-compliant gate decision reports. No phase passes without reviewed, approved artifacts.
Its SKILL.md is about 1.8k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 7 other files, including reference files (for example `references/acceptance-review-patterns.md`, `references/implementation-review-patterns.md` and `references/phase-gate-methodology.md`).
The repository describes itself as: Curated Hermes Agent profiles for specialist swarms — opinionated, Hermes-optimized, artifact-pyramid native. The licence is MIT.
3 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 867a555. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Sdd Review loads about 1.8k tokens when it runs, and up to ~4.1k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 66 tokens; SKILL.md has 801 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from magnus919/hermes-profiles at commit 867a555, republished under its MIT licence (© magnus919). 801 words, ~1,751 tokens.

Gate 1: Spec Gate 2: Plan Gate 3: Tasks Gate 4: ImplementationEvery gate asks the same question: "Is the artifact for this phase complete, correct, and unambiguous enough for the next phase to proceed safely?"
In SDD, quality is not enforced by code review — that's too late. Quality is enforced by the phase gate. A defect caught at Gate 1 (spec review) costs minutes to fix. The same defect caught at Gate 4 (implementation review) costs hours — the implementation may need to be discarded and rewritten against a corrected spec.
This skill is deliberately strict. Its job is not to be agreeable; its job is to protect downstream phases from upstream artifacts that would waste their time.
Phase-gate review reports follow the artifact-pyramid structure:
| Layer | Content | File |
|---|---|---|
| L1 | Gate decision — APPROVED / CONDITIONS / REJECTED, one-line rationale, blocking findings count | 00-index.md (entry point) |
| L2 | Review findings by category — spec completeness, task correctness, implementation compliance, verification gaps | Individual *.findings.md files |
| L3 | Per-finding dossiers — severity, location (artifact + section), recommendation, evidence, escalation path | dossiers/ directory |
| SOURCES | Cross-reference from each finding to the artifact section it evaluates | Footer of each file |
| Reference | When to load | File |
|---|---|---|
| Phase Gate Methodology | Before running any review — the four-gate structure, decision criteria, escalation paths | references/phase-gate-methodology.md |
| Spec Review Patterns | Reviewing a SPEC.md — completeness checks, ambiguity detection, testability assessment | references/spec-review-patterns.md |
| Implementation Review Patterns | Reviewing code against a spec — not general code review, but spec-compliance review | references/implementation-review-patterns.md |
| Acceptance Review Patterns | Reviewing verification results — assessing whether the verification report justifies a pass verdict | references/acceptance-review-patterns.md |
| Template | When to use | File |
|---|---|---|
| REVIEW.md | Producing a phase-gate review report | templates/REVIEW.md |
Invoke this skill when:
Reviews SPEC.md against the quality gates defined in sdd-authoring. Questions asked:
Verdict: APPROVED only if every question produces a clear "yes" or has an explicit remediation plan.
Reviews TASK-PLAN.md against the specification. Questions asked:
Verdict: APPROVED only if spec traceability is complete and dependency mapping is honest.
Reviews implementation output against the task plan. This is NOT a general code review — it does not assess code style, test coverage, or architectural elegance. It asks only:
Verdict: APPROVED only if all completed task ACs are satisfied.
Reviews the VERIFICATION.md report. Questions asked:
Verdict: APPROVED only if no BLOCKING failures exist and all CRITICAL failures have documented exceptions or remediation plans.
Every gate produces one of three verdicts:
| Verdict | Meaning | What happens next |
|---|---|---|
| APPROVED | Artifact passes all criteria. The next phase may proceed. | Deliver artifact to next phase |
| CONDITIONS | Artifact passes subject to specific remediations that do not require a full re-review | Deliver artifact + conditions list; next phase may proceed while conditions are resolved |
| REJECTED | Artifact fails one or more criteria. The current phase must produce a revised artifact. | Return artifact to current phase; no downstream work starts |
When a reviewer and artifact author disagree on a finding, the escalation path is:

Sdd Review fits situations like: tasks that involve Human-in-the-loop approvals.

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Sdd Review is instructions for the agent only.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Sdd Review is published under the MIT licence (declared in SKILL.md). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 1.8k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 7k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 2.3k tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.
